Play GeForce NOW in your browser without a Chromebook or native app by visiting play.geforcenow.com from a supported ChromeOS, Windows, or macOS setup. You need a compatible browser, an eligible NVIDIA account and game library, enough bandwidth, and less than 80 ms latency to an NVIDIA data center.
Chromebook users need at least 4 GB of RAM and Chrome 77.x or later. Windows and macOS users have additional browser choices, including Chrome, Edge on Windows, Opera GX, and Safari on macOS. Browser access is straightforward, but resolution, frame rate, game eligibility, and streaming quality depend on NVIDIA’s current requirements and your membership.

Can you play GeForce NOW in your browser without a Chromebook?
Yes. You can play GeForce NOW in your browser without owning a Chromebook or installing NVIDIA’s native app, provided your computer, browser, network connection, membership, and game library meet NVIDIA’s current requirements. Supported browser play includes compatible ChromeOS, Windows, and macOS configurations.
Open play.geforcenow.com, sign in with an NVIDIA account, and launch an eligible game from your connected libraries or subscriptions. A Chromebook is simply one supported device category, not a requirement for browser gaming.

What do you need to play GeForce NOW in a browser?
You need a supported browser, a compatible operating system or Chromebook, a stable internet connection, and an input device suitable for the game. NVIDIA’s requirements also include a latency target and different bandwidth targets for HD, FHD, and QHD streaming.
Supported browser and device combinations
| Browser | Minimum version listed by NVIDIA | Supported systems |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome | 77.x or later | Windows, macOS, or Chromebook |
| Microsoft Edge | 91.xx or later | Windows only |
| Opera GX | 117.x or later | Windows or macOS |
| Safari | 16.4 or later | macOS |
These are NVIDIA’s listed browser combinations, so an updated browser alone does not guarantee compatibility if the operating system or device is unsupported. Check NVIDIA’s current GeForce NOW system requirements if your browser reports that the device is unsupported.
Does a Chromebook need special specifications?
A compatible Chromebook needs at least 4 GB of RAM and Chrome 77.x or later for the browser configuration NVIDIA lists. Chromebook branding alone is not a compatibility test: the model, installed Chrome version, available memory, network quality, and membership can all affect the experience.
How much internet speed does browser streaming require?
NVIDIA lists 15 Mbps for HD resolutions up to 60 FPS, 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS, and 35 Mbps for QHD at 120 FPS. NVIDIA also requires less than 80 ms of network latency to an NVIDIA data center. See the NVIDIA system-requirements page for the current targets.
| Streaming target | NVIDIA-listed bandwidth | Example |
|---|---|---|
| HD up to 60 FPS | 15 Mbps | 1280×720 |
| FHD at 60 FPS | 25 Mbps | 1920×1080 |
| QHD at 120 FPS | 35 Mbps | 2560×1440 |
The bandwidth figures are service targets, not a guarantee that every home network will feel perfect. Wi-Fi interference, congestion, distance from the data center, and other devices using the connection can still cause latency, image-quality changes, or stuttering.

NVIDIA recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If a Chromebook or computer has no Ethernet port, a compatible USB-to-Ethernet adapter can help you pursue the wired-network recommendation, but it is optional and is not a guaranteed fix for every streaming problem.
How do you play GeForce NOW from a browser?
Browser play follows a short setup sequence, but game ownership and membership determine which titles you can actually launch.
- Open the browser entry point. Visit play.geforcenow.com in a supported browser.
- Sign in or create an NVIDIA account. Choose an available GeForce NOW membership option.
- Connect your game libraries. Depending on the title, connect supported services such as Steam, Epic, GOG, PC Game Pass, or Ubisoft Connect. NVIDIA says store or publisher sign-in verifies ownership and helps populate your GeForce NOW library; its current games catalog identifies supported games and services.
- Choose an eligible game. Ready-to-Play games are prepared for immediate streaming. Applicable premium members can use Install-to-Play for supported Steam cloud-streaming participation, completing the installation inside the cloud session.
- Start the session. Use a keyboard and mouse or connect a supported gamepad.
GeForce NOW does not automatically include every PC game in a connected store library. The safe rule is that GeForce NOW streams eligible games from supported storefronts and subscriptions while the storefront’s ownership or access rules still apply.
Can you use a keyboard and mouse with GeForce NOW?
Yes. Keyboard-and-mouse controls are suitable for many PC games, and NVIDIA specifically recommends a USB gaming mouse for browser play. A wired USB mouse can be a practical choice when precise aiming or low-input complexity matters.
NVIDIA lists Microsoft Xbox controllers and Sony PS5 DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers among supported gamepads. Other controllers may work, but some third-party models can require additional drivers or software updates. Controller compatibility should therefore be checked by model rather than assumed from the fact that a controller connects to the computer.

Does browser GeForce NOW include QHD and 120 FPS?
Not for every membership. NVIDIA requires an Ultimate membership for browser features such as QHD resolution and 120 FPS streaming. NVIDIA separately identifies Ultimate as required on Chromebooks for features including 1600p resolution and 120 FPS streaming, so the highest resolution and frame rate should not be treated as universal browser behavior.

Meeting NVIDIA’s bandwidth target is necessary for the listed streaming tier but does not remove every local or network limitation.
How does browser play compare with the native app?
Browser play is the most convenient option when you want to start from an existing browser or cannot install software. The native app may be preferable when you want app-specific features or broader feature coverage, but the choice should be based on the supported configuration and features you need.
| Consideration | Browser play | Native app |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Open the supported web address; no native app installation is mandatory | Requires installing and maintaining the GeForce NOW application |
| Device choice | Works on listed ChromeOS, Windows, and macOS browser configurations | Depends on the platforms supported by the current app |
| Controls | Keyboard, mouse, and supported controllers | Keyboard, mouse, and supported controllers |
| Streaming limits | Membership and browser/device requirements still apply, including Ultimate for QHD and 120 FPS browser features | Feature limits depend on the current app, membership, and device |
| Best fit | Quick access from a compatible computer or Chromebook | Users who want app-specific features and a dedicated installation |
Why does GeForce NOW say your browser or device is unsupported?
An unsupported-browser message usually means the browser version, operating system, Chromebook memory, or device configuration does not match NVIDIA’s current supported combinations. The troubleshooting sequence below follows the requirements rather than guessing from a computer or Chromebook brand.
- Check the browser name and version against NVIDIA’s current system-requirements list.
- If you are using ChromeOS, confirm that the Chromebook has at least 4 GB of RAM and Chrome 77.x or later.
- Check the connection against NVIDIA’s 15 Mbps HD, 25 Mbps FHD, or 35 Mbps QHD targets.
- Check latency to an NVIDIA data center and confirm it is below NVIDIA’s 80 ms requirement.
- Switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi where practical.
- If the browser remains unsupported, consult NVIDIA’s unsupported-devices guidance and current system requirements instead of inferring compatibility from the Chromebook manufacturer or model family.
If the browser launches but the session is unstable, separate compatibility from performance. A device can pass the browser check while congestion, interference, high latency, or local device activity still harms the stream.
