You can play Hero Wars: Dominion Era for free in a PC or laptop browser. Before starting, note that Hero Wars: Alliance is a separate mobile-focused game: its mechanics differ, and progress does not transfer between the two. This guide covers Dominion Era; it is not a firsthand review based on a play session.
Choose the right Hero Wars before you start
Nexters identifies two separate games, not two ways to access the same account. Dominion Era is designed for PC and laptop browsers. Alliance is the mobile-focused version. Alliance can also be accessed through an official desktop-browser method for existing mobile accounts, but that does not make it Dominion Era; the support page says Alliance browser access is not supported on mobile browsers.

Is Hero Wars free to play?
The official landing page labels Hero Wars “Free!” and promotes it as a browser game. That describes access, not a promise that every resource or convenience is free. Dominion Era support materials describe purchasable special offers and emeralds; purchases also grant VIP points. Shop contents and event rewards can change.

Do not confuse Dominion Era’s purchase details with the mobile app-store disclosures for Alliance. The Google Play listing for Hero Wars: Alliance describes that separate game and says it contains ads and in-app purchases, including random items; those disclosures are not a complete description of Dominion Era.
How Dominion Era plays
Dominion Era is an online fantasy role-playing game built around Campaign progression, collecting and improving heroes, and team battles. As you advance, the game opens additional activities, including quests, limited-time events, Arena and Grand Arena PvP, and guild modes such as Guild War and Clash of Worlds.

Combat and skill timing
In battles that allow manual control, you can choose when to activate a hero’s first skill once that hero has enough energy. Automatic mode activates first skills as soon as enough energy is available. Arena and Grand Arena battles are fully automatic. Hero positions are set automatically according to auto-attack range; you cannot manually move heroes into formation slots.
Team selection
There is no universally winning lineup. Nexters’ Gameplay FAQ says that each battle calls for a specific strategy and composition, and no single team can defeat every opponent. Treat team building as a response to the enemy lineup rather than a search for one fixed “best team.”

Beginner priorities that make progress more manageable
- Collect daily rewards and do quests. The official beginner guidance includes daily bonus rewards and quests among the basic ways to build resources and establish a foundation.
- Advance through Campaign with energy in mind. Campaign missions consume energy. Energy regenerates at one point every six minutes until it reaches capacity, according to Nexters’ undated resource guide accessed in 2026.
- Understand what a raid gives you. Raiding a Campaign mission does not give heroes direct experience. The experience is converted into EXP Potions, which you can use on any hero.
- Focus development rather than spreading resources indiscriminately. Build a practical group, then adapt the lineup to the opponent and mode. The official FAQ does not endorse one lineup as best against all teams.
- Use manual skill timing when available. In eligible battles, hold a first skill for a useful moment rather than relying on automatic activation. This advice does not apply to fully automatic Arena and Grand Arena battles.
- Check events and official community rewards. Events, gifts, level-up rewards, and other official sources can provide resources. Event details and availability change, so consult current official channels.
Energy and other resources
Nexters’ resource guide describes several ways to obtain energy and explains what common resources do. Its figures are publisher-stated game mechanics, not independent measurements.

Emeralds are the game’s universal currency; the official guide says they can be earned through activities or purchased. Gold is used to upgrade heroes, titans, and pets. Purchases grant VIP points. These mechanics and available offers may change over time.

What to know about Tower
Tower difficulty depends on your team level. Heroes and pets must be at least level 15 to participate, according to Nexters’ Gameplay FAQ. Factor that requirement into your progression rather than treating Tower as an activity every newly unlocked roster can enter immediately.
