That figure describes the original announcement, not the firm’s current fund size: its later official materials describe an oversubscribed debut fund of $40 million and a $135 million Fund II.
What Play Ventures announced
Play Ventures’ news archive said it was raising $30 million to invest globally in game startups. The archive named Harri Manninen, based in Helsinki, and Henric Suuronen, based in Singapore, as the fund’s leaders.
Contemporaneous coverage by GamesBeat also reported the announcement. It described Manninen’s interest in startups combining gaming with other technologies, including AI.
How the $30 million figure fits later funds
The original $30 million plan should not be confused with the later fund amounts Play Ventures reported. Its official archive describes the debut fund as oversubscribed at $40 million and Fund II as a $135 million fund. The firm announced Fund II with the statement: “We are excited to announce the closing of Play Ventures Fund II, a $135M fund that we will invest in the world’s best game makers and entrepreneurs.” The archive does not identify a speaker for that statement.
