Coverage describes a fairy protagonist, transformation-based puzzles and music-related encounters. The build is said to date to 2017, but that date and the leak’s provenance have not been independently authenticated in the reviewed reporting. The claim that the project was “a huge disaster” comes from content creator Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly—not from Nintendo or Retro Studios.
What the leaked Project Harmony footage reportedly shows
VGC reported on 7 April 2025 that footage from a Retro Studios prototype titled Harmony had appeared online. The outlet described a third-person fairy character who could transform into different characters to solve puzzles. VGC said the build was claimed to date from 2017; this is a reported date, not a verified development record. VGC’s report on the footage.
In a 9 April account, TwistedVoxel described a wand-wielding protagonist, a companion creature, creature-assisted traversal and combat, and an encounter involving singing. These are press descriptions of leaked footage, not official design documentation. TwistedVoxel’s account.
Why it is described as a music RPG—and a “huge disaster”
The music-RPG description predates the leaked footage. Nintendo Everything reported on 6 January 2025 that Reilly had said Retro worked on a music RPG between Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Metroid Prime Remastered, with singing as its main mechanic. Nintendo Everything stated that Nintendo had not confirmed his report. Nintendo Everything’s report on Reilly’s claim.

What is known about the build and the leak
VGC wrote that the footage was believed to have come from a Nintendo Switch development kit that had been sold online. The reviewed coverage does not document a complete chain of custody or authenticate every file, so the precise provenance remains uncertain.

The build is described as unfinished. That does not mean the game was a finished release—or that ordinary Switch owners can buy or run it. The reporting identifies no retail release.

Nintendo and Retro Studios have not officially confirmed the reported game history or the reason the project ended in the coverage reviewed here. That coverage also does not establish Harmony’s budget, staffing, exact development span, internal milestones or documented cancellation rationale. Accordingly, the footage and Reilly’s earlier account provide reported claims, not a complete or officially verified history of the project.
