The PS5 Pro includes a 2TB SSD and, according to Sony, has 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the current PS5, enabling up to 45% faster gameplay rendering. It is disc-less, supports Wi-Fi 7 where available, and adds ray-tracing and PSSR features whose results depend on each game. Sony has not published a complete numeric CPU and GPU specification in the official materials cited here.

How much faster is the PS5 Pro?
Sony’s September 2024 announcement compares the Pro with the “current PS5”: it lists 67% more GPU compute units, 28% faster memory, and says the combination enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay. These are Sony’s hardware and performance claims, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee that every game will run 45% faster. The actual benefit depends on how a game uses the hardware and which graphics modes it offers. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement

Ray tracing
Sony says the upgraded ray-tracing capability improves dynamic reflections and refractions. It says ray casting can be twice as fast as on PS5, and at times three times as fast; “at times” matters, because this is not a universal multiplier across games or scenes. Sony’s technical overview
PSSR upscaling
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) uses machine learning to upscale images, allowing supported games to target sharper output without rendering every pixel at the final output resolution. The image-quality and performance effects are game-specific, not a single console-wide result. Sony’s March 2026 update says upgraded PSSR support was integrated through a system-software update rolling out in phases; supported titles and patches can change. Sony lists examples including Control, Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2. It says results vary by title and that the optional setting can be turned off if unexpected visual effects occur. Sony’s March 2026 PSSR update
#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
Storage, discs and compatibility
2TB SSD and expansion
The console includes a 2TB SSD and an M.2 SSD slot. Sony confirms that an M.2 drive already installed in a PS5 can be transferred to PS5 Pro. For a new drive, check Sony’s current compatibility and installation guidance rather than assuming every M.2 SSD will work. Sony’s M.2 SSD guide
No built-in disc drive
PS5 Pro is a disc-less console. Sony’s separate Disc Drive supports physical PS5 games, supported PS4 games, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and DVDs. The drive is an additional accessory, not part of the console specification as sold without it. Sony’s announcement Sony’s Disc Drive setup guide
PS4 and PS5 game support
Game Boost may stabilize or improve performance in supported backward-compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Sony says it can apply to more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games; that figure describes the eligible library, not a promise that every title will receive an enhancement. Enhanced Image Quality is available for select PS4 games. PS5 Pro-enhanced features are also limited to selected PS5 games, and Sony says their implementation varies by title. Size, weight and ports
Sony’s setup guide gives approximate dimensions of 388 × 89 × 216 mm, measured width × height × depth, and a weight of around 3.1 kg. Its port layout is not four identical USB connections: the front has two USB-C ports with different speed labels, while the rear has two USB-A Super-Speed USB 10Gbps ports. Sony’s PS5 Pro setup guide

Networking and display support
The wired Ethernet interface supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T, which means gigabit Ethernet capability. Sony lists Wi-Fi 7, but availability depends on whether the relevant territory supports the standard. The console also supports VRR and 8K gaming; that does not mean every game renders natively at 8K or that all display features can be combined in every game mode. What Sony has not specified numerically
The official Sony materials cited here do not provide a complete conventional chip-specification table. They do not state the exact PS5 Pro CPU model or clock rate, GPU model or clock rate, shader count, total memory capacity and bandwidth, or SSD read bandwidth. Sony’s technical-seminar overview discusses topics including FLOPS versus TOPS, ray tracing and PSSR machine-learning hardware, but its accessible text does not give those numeric specifications.
