Yes, PlayStation allows game sharing, but only through its console-activation features. On PS5, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play; on PS4, activate one console as the account’s primary PS4. Other users on those designated consoles can play the account holder’s purchased and downloaded games and media, including offline on the enabled PS5.
This is not an unrestricted license transfer or a way to give your library to several unrelated consoles. PlayStation limits sharing to one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled and one primary PS4. PlayStation Plus benefits have additional exceptions.

What PlayStation game sharing actually does
PlayStation game sharing is account-based access on a specific console. The account that bought a game remains the purchasing account, while other profiles using the designated PS5 or PS4 can access eligible content already purchased and downloaded by that account. Sony describes the PS5 feature as allowing other users to play games and media the account holder has purchased and downloaded, even when that PS5 is offline. The arrangement has two separate activation systems:

- PS5: one PS5 at a time can have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled for an account.
- PS4: one PS4 can be activated as that account’s primary PS4.
These settings do not merge two accounts, move ownership, or create a second copy of a subscription. They simply let additional users on the activated consoles use eligible content under the purchasing account’s entitlement.
How to enable game sharing on PS5
Use the purchasing account on the PS5 that should provide access to the console’s other users. PlayStation says Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled automatically on the first PS5 where the account signs in. If it is not enabled, or you are moving the entitlement to another PS5, use this path:
- Sign in to the account that purchased the games or holds the PlayStation Plus membership.
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Open Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
Only one PS5 can have this setting enabled for the account at any time. To move sharing, sign in on the old PS5, return to the same menu, choose Disable, then sign in on the new PS5 and choose Enable. The PS5 setting is separate from the account’s PS4 primary-console activation, so changing the enabled PS5 does not consume or remove the PS4 activation.

How to activate a primary PS4
On PS4, the equivalent is a primary-console activation. Sign in with the account that owns the purchases, then follow this exact menu path:
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.
- Select Activate.
One PS4 can be primary for the account. Other users on that primary PS4 can use eligible purchases and selected PlayStation Plus benefits. PlayStation’s Plus-sharing rules describe the supported combination as one primary PS4 and one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled; the current benefit list is on Sony’s PlayStation Plus sharing page.
If the account is already primary on another PS4, you must deactivate that console before activating a different one, unless you use Sony’s remote device-deactivation option. A primary-PS4 activation does not authorize every PS4 where the account has merely signed in.
What the other users can play
On the designated PS5, other local users can play the purchasing account’s games and use purchased media that has been downloaded to that console. The PS5 feature is specifically intended to work offline, so the other user does not need to sign in as the buyer each time the console is disconnected. Licenses still have to be valid on the purchasing account, and a game tied to an expired subscription can stop working.

On a primary PS4, other users receive the access that Sony allows through the primary-console system. In both generations, access is local to the activated console. Signing into a friend’s separate console does not turn that console into a shared library automatically.
Which PlayStation Plus benefits are shareable?
PlayStation Plus is only partially shared. Sony’s support guidance lists the following benefits as available to other users on one enabled PS5 and one primary PS4, subject to the account’s active plan and normal parental-control settings:

Sharing a Plus benefit does not give the second profile its own Plus membership. Sony says the following are not shared:

Catalogue games and other subscription-dependent content require the subscriber’s membership to stay active. If the plan ends, a catalogue title leaves the plan, or the account no longer has the relevant entitlement, the other user cannot keep that subscription access as a permanent personal license. Console Sharing versus Share Play
The names are similar, but these are different features with different use cases.

Share Play therefore is not a method for activating a friend’s console or permanently lending that person your library. Sony’s general Plus support describes the feature separately from console activation at PlayStation Plus support.

Not in the unlimited, account-to-account sense implied by “game sharing.” PlayStation’s supported arrangement is restricted to one enabled PS5 and one primary PS4 for the purchasing account. A friend’s unrelated PS5 cannot both remain independently activated for your account; enabling a new PS5 requires disabling the old one. The same principle applies to the single primary-PS4 slot.
If two people use the same designated household console, each should play from a separate local profile. If they live on separate consoles, Share Play can provide a temporary online session, but it does not transfer ownership, create a second entitlement, or grant the friend the ability to redeem your Plus games.

Moving sharing to a replacement console
When replacing a PS5, disable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the old machine before enabling it on the replacement. This is the normal transfer route and preserves the distinction between the PS5 setting and the primary-PS4 setting.
If you no longer have access to the old console, Sony provides remote deactivation through Account Management. The remote action deactivates all devices associated with the account, not a single selected console, and Sony limits it to once every six months. After using it, sign in on the PS5 you want to share and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play, then activate the intended PS4 as primary if needed. Troubleshooting common sharing problems
The other profile sees a padlock or cannot start the game
- Confirm the purchasing account is signed in on the console.
- Check that the game is fully downloaded, not merely queued.
- On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and verify that it says enabled.
- On PS4, verify Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4 shows the console as active.
- If the game came from Plus, check that the purchasing account’s membership and the relevant plan are still active.
The setting is enabled on a different PS5
One account can have only one enabled PS5. Disable the setting on the previous PS5, or use Sony’s all-device remote deactivation if the old console is unavailable. Remote deactivation is limited to once per six months, so use it only when necessary.

A Plus feature is missing
Check whether the missing item is one of Sony’s non-shareable benefits. Online storage, redeeming a claimed game to another account, Plus-discount purchases, automatic patch downloads, and early access to time-limited trials are excluded. Catalogue access also depends on the member’s current plan and the title remaining in that catalogue.
The console is offline
Offline play is supported for purchased and downloaded games on the enabled PS5. Make sure the download completed while the purchasing account had the entitlement and that Console Sharing and Offline Play was enabled before disconnecting. Share Play, by contrast, requires an online session with the invited friend.
