A dedicated PlayStation PC launcher looks unlikely, according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier—but Sony has not announced that decision. The prediction comes amid reports that Sony is pulling back from PC ports of some single-player PS5 games, while its official PC page still directs players to Steam and Epic Games.
Is PlayStation making a PC launcher?
There is no announced PlayStation PC launcher. In a report updated October 5, 2026, Notebookcheck said Schreier considered one unlikely. That is an insider’s assessment, not confirmation from Sony that it will never build a launcher or storefront.
Notebookcheck reproduced a short sentence attributed to Schreier in a ResetEra forum post: “At some point Sony will confirm it, whether it’s on a call with investors or maybe even when Housemarque starts doing press for Saros and someone asks if they have plans to bring it to PC and they say no.” The report does not provide enough of the original post to establish more of its context.
Sony’s official PlayStation PC games page lists Steam and Epic Games as retailers. It documents current PC games and support, but does not announce a dedicated launcher or settle Sony’s future plans.

Why Sony’s PC strategy matters to the launcher question
The reported reasoning hinges on which PlayStation games Sony chooses to bring to PC. A launcher has a different potential role if Sony intends to release a broad range of games there than if fewer single-player titles make the jump. That is an inference from the reported strategy, not a rationale Sony has given for a launcher decision.
Earlier distinction: live-service and single-player games
In a May 30, 2024 account of Sony’s business update, GameSpot quoted Sony Interactive Entertainment co-CEO Hermen Hulst describing different release approaches:

- CPU: x86-64-AMD Ryzen Zen 8 Cores / 16 Threads at 3.5GHz.GPU: AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine.

“We have a dual approach here. On the live-service side, we are releasing our titles simultaneously, so day-and-date on PlayStation 5 and PC. But with our tentpole titles–our single-player, narrative-driven titles that are the backbone of what PlayStation Studios has delivered in recent years and in our history–we take a more strategic approach,”
That statement described simultaneous PS5 and PC releases for live-service games, while single-player narrative tentpoles followed a more strategic approach. It did not promise that every game in either category would follow the same schedule.

Later reports describe a stronger pullback for some single-player games
GameSpot reported on March 4, 2026, summarizing Bloomberg’s reporting that Sony was retreating from some PC releases of single-player games. Its account also noted that plans could change. A June 19, 2026 report from IT之家, summarizing a Famitsu interview with Sony president Hideaki Nishino, said Sony decides on PC releases game by game: single-player games prioritize the PlayStation experience, while simultaneous PS5 and PC releases remain standard for service games. These are secondary reports, not a universal, official rule covering every future title.
| Game category | Reported platform approach | Timing | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-player narrative or tentpole games | Historically described as a more strategic approach; later reports say Sony is pulling back from some PC ports. | May be delayed or not announced; no universal schedule is established. | Hulst’s 2024 comments were reported by GameSpot; the 2026 shift is described in secondary reporting and may change. |
| Live-service or online multiplayer games | Hulst said these titles would release on PS5 and PC simultaneously. | Day-and-date was the stated approach in 2024; later reporting says simultaneous releases remain standard for service games. | Hulst’s comments were reported by GameSpot; the 2026 account of Nishino’s interview is a secondary summary. |
What PC players can use today
For games that are available on PC, PlayStation’s official US page points players to Steam and Epic Games rather than a PlayStation-operated PC launcher. Support also varies by game:
Rank #4
- Enjoy smooth and fluid high frame rate gameplay at up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.
- PS5 consoles support an 8K output, so you can play games on your 4320p resolution display.
- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
- Some PlayStation Studios PC games require a PlayStation account for certain modes or features.
- DualSense works through a wired connection; wireless connectivity and DualSense-specific features vary by title.
Those support details apply to the listed games and do not imply that owning a DualSense controller grants access to games or to a launcher.

The available evidence supports a cautious conclusion: Schreier reportedly considers a launcher unlikely as Sony reconsiders PC releases, especially for single-player games. It does not establish a permanent company decision, a cancellation of an announced launcher, or a guarantee that no future single-player PlayStation game will reach PC. Sony’s official PC page describes the current retail and support setup; future releases remain subject to change.
