PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium both include the Game Catalog, but only Premium adds the Classics Catalog, game trials and cloud streaming. In the US plan comparison, Premium also includes the Sony Pictures Catalog. If you mainly want current catalog games, Extra may be enough; pay more for Premium only if you want a Premium-only game or will use its additional features. Catalogs and prices vary by region and change, so check your local PlayStation Store before subscribing.
What games and benefits come with each tier?
Both tiers include the Game Catalog, a rotating selection of games to download or play through supported methods. Premium includes that catalog plus the Classics Catalog and trials for select games. A title’s presence is not guaranteed permanently: PlayStation says availability varies by tier and over time.

How to decide which tier has the games you want
- Look up the exact game in your region. Check the live Game Catalog or Classics Catalog rather than relying on an old list or a title’s past availability.
- Check which tier includes it. A Game Catalog title is available through either tier; a Classics Catalog game or eligible trial requires Premium.
- Confirm how you can play it. Check whether the game can be downloaded on your console or streamed on your device. A single game can be the deciding factor, but it can also leave the service.
- Compare the price for your billing term. Use your local PlayStation Store’s current monthly, three-month and annual prices, and account for recurring billing and cancellation terms.
What does Premium add beyond Extra?
Classics Catalog and trials
Premium adds access to the Classics Catalog and time-limited trials for select games. These are the clearest reasons to upgrade if there is a specific classic you want to play or you expect to use trials before deciding whether to buy a game. Check the current catalog and trial eligibility; not every game is included.

Cloud streaming
PlayStation lists cloud streaming as a Premium benefit. Its games FAQ describes streaming on PS4, PS5 and PC, subject to title availability, territory and age restrictions. The US plan page emphasizes PS5 streaming, so verify local device eligibility and whether the particular game is streamable. Sony states a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p; actual experience may depend on your connection and circumstances. See PlayStation’s cloud-streaming support information.
Sony Pictures Catalog
The US plan comparison lists the Sony Pictures Catalog as a Premium benefit. Its availability and included content are territory-dependent, so do not count on it without checking the offer shown for your account’s country.

What Extra and Premium share
Both tiers list monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, exclusive content, cloud storage, Share Play and Ubisoft+ Classics. If those shared benefits and the Game Catalog cover what you want, Premium’s extra price does not add value unless you will use one of its additional features.
Downloads, streaming and catalog changes
Choose a play method your hardware supports
PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5. Premium streaming is available on PS4, PS5 and PC according to PlayStation’s games FAQ, but that does not mean every title can be streamed on every device. Check the game’s page and the service’s local device requirements before subscribing for streaming access.

Check the catalog close to purchase
Catalog availability changes, and PlayStation says it varies by tier and over time. The US plan page also states: “From January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently.” This is a statement about future additions, not a promise that existing PS4 catalog games will remain available. Confirm the title in the live catalog before paying.

Which tier should you choose?
- Choose Extra if the games you want are in the Game Catalog and you do not expect to use Classics Catalog games, trials, cloud streaming or the Sony Pictures Catalog.
- Choose Premium if a specific Classics Catalog title, eligible game trial or supported streaming use justifies the extra cost—or if you will use the Sony Pictures Catalog where it is available.
- Wait or buy the game separately if one title is the only reason to subscribe and it is not currently in your local catalog. Catalog membership can change, so compare the subscription cost with your alternatives.
