Choose PlayStation Plus Extra if you mainly want downloadable games from Sony’s rotating Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. Choose Premium if you will use the Classics Catalog, limited-time game trials, or cloud streaming. On Sony’s US page, the annual plans are currently $134.99 for Extra and $159.99 for Premium—a $25 difference—so Premium is worthwhile only when its added features match how you play.
Prices, catalogs, streaming eligibility, and availability vary by country and can change. Check the live plan page and catalog before paying for a specific game or feature.

At a glance: Extra or Premium?
| Choose Extra when… | Choose Premium when… |
|---|---|
| Your priority is the current Game Catalog. | You specifically want the Classics Catalog. |
| You are happy to download games to a console. | You want cloud streaming for supported games. |
| You do not need game trials. | You want limited-time trials of selected games. |
| You want the lower price of the two tiers. | You will use enough Premium features to justify the higher recurring fee. |
Both tiers include the standard PlayStation Plus benefits: monthly games, online multiplayer, member discounts, Share Play, cloud storage, and exclusive content. Extra adds the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. Premium contains everything in Extra and adds the Classics Catalog, game trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog, as listed on Sony’s US PlayStation Plus plans page.

What PlayStation Plus Extra includes
Game Catalog access
Extra’s main benefit is access to the Game Catalog, a library of downloadable PS4 and PS5 games. The catalog is not a permanently owned collection. Sony changes the selection, and individual games can have removal dates. A title you see today may not be available when you subscribe later, so verify the current listing before choosing Extra for one particular game.
Ubisoft+ Classics
Extra also includes Ubisoft+ Classics. The available games and regional terms are controlled by the service and can change, so treat it as an additional catalog rather than a guarantee that every Ubisoft title is included.
Shared membership benefits
Extra carries the same core membership benefits as the lower PlayStation Plus tier: monthly games, online multiplayer for supported paid games, discounts in the PlayStation Store, Share Play, cloud storage for saved data, and selected exclusive content. Those benefits are not unique to Extra; they are part of the wider PlayStation Plus offering.
What Premium adds
Premium includes everything in Extra. Its higher price pays for four additional categories of access.
Classics Catalog
The Classics Catalog adds older PlayStation games that are not part of the regular Game Catalog. It is the clearest reason to upgrade for players who want legacy titles or a broader historical selection. Like the Game Catalog, the Classics Catalog can change, and membership access does not make a catalog game permanently yours.
Limited-time game trials
Premium offers trials for selected games. These are time-limited opportunities to play before deciding whether to buy a title. Extra does not include this benefit. Trial availability, duration, and the games offered are determined by Sony and can change, so Premium should not be purchased on the assumption that every new release will receive a trial.

Cloud streaming
Premium enables cloud streaming for eligible games on supported devices. Sony states that streaming requires at least a 5 Mbps connection, while 15 Mbps is required for 1080p. The service is available on PS4 and PS5 consoles and on PC for eligible games, but supported titles, countries, devices, account age, and other eligibility conditions can limit access. Details and troubleshooting links are available through Sony’s getting-started information and its PlayStation Plus support page.

Sony lists a Sony Pictures Catalog as a Premium benefit on its US comparison page. The contents and availability of this video catalog are subject to the terms and territory of your membership. If films are not part of your reason for subscribing, do not treat this addition alone as justification for the annual upgrade.
Current US prices and what the difference means
Sony’s US page currently displays the following recurring prices:
| Billing period | Extra | Premium | Premium difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| One month | $16.99 | $19.99 | $3.00 |
| Three months | $43.99 | $54.99 | $11.00 |
| 12 months | $134.99 | $159.99 | $25.00 |
These are US prices displayed by Sony, not permanent worldwide rates. Plans recur until canceled and are charged at the then-current PlayStation Store price. Sony can change both price and billing terms, and other regions may use different currencies, amounts, or plan names. Check the price shown for your account before confirming payment.
Dividing the displayed annual prices by 12 gives an approximate monthly equivalent of $11.25 for Extra and $13.33 for Premium. That calculation is only a way to compare the annual commitments; it does not change the fact that Sony bills the annual plan as a 12-month charge. The practical annual upgrade cost is $25 at the prices shown, while choosing monthly billing makes the difference $3 each month.
A simple value test
Write down the Premium features you would genuinely use during the coming billing period. If the Classics Catalog, trials, or streaming would otherwise save you more than the displayed price difference in purchases, rentals, or convenience, Premium may make sense. If your list contains only Game Catalog downloads and the standard benefits, Extra supplies the same relevant access for less.

Game Catalog access is not permanent ownership
Both tiers give access to the Game Catalog, but catalog membership works differently from buying a game. Sony rotates selections, and some games carry announced removal dates. You can therefore lose access when a title leaves the service, even if you previously downloaded it through your membership. Before subscribing for a particular game:
- Open the live PlayStation Plus games page for your region.
- Search for the exact edition and platform you intend to play.
- Check whether the listing shows a removal date or other eligibility restriction.
- Confirm that the title is included in your territory and tier rather than available only as a separate purchase or trial.
Sony’s US comparison also says PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026. That policy makes the catalog’s future mix less predictable for someone subscribing mainly for new PS4 additions. It does not remove the existing Game Catalog benefit, but it is a reason to inspect the current library instead of assuming a steady flow of PS4 games.
Cloud streaming: requirements and trade-offs
Connection requirements
Sony states a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps for cloud streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p. These figures are thresholds, not a promise of identical performance on every home network. Wi-Fi congestion, latency, data caps, household traffic, and regional server availability can affect the experience even when a speed test exceeds the minimum.

Where streaming works
Premium streaming is available on PS4 and PS5 consoles and on PC for eligible games. “Eligible” matters: not every Game Catalog or Classics Catalog title is streamable, and a game’s download availability does not automatically mean its cloud version is available. Device, country, account-age, and title restrictions can also apply.
When streaming is useful
Streaming is most useful when you want to sample a game without waiting for a download, play on a compatible PC, or avoid using console storage. It is less compelling if you have fast local downloads, limited bandwidth, strict data caps, or a library dominated by games that are not supported for streaming. Check the individual game listing before treating Premium as a replacement for downloading.
Practical pre-check
- Run a connection test on the device and network you will actually use.
- Compare the result with Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum and 15 Mbps 1080p requirement.
- Confirm that your country, account, device, and intended games are eligible.
- If image quality or responsiveness matters, test at the time of day you normally play; a peak-hour connection can behave differently from an off-peak test.
Game trials: who benefits from Premium?
Trials are valuable for players who frequently hesitate over full-price purchases or want to evaluate a game’s controls and performance before committing. Premium trials are limited-time and available only for selected games. They are not an unlimited demo program, and the selection can change.

Extra subscribers can still play the Game Catalog titles included in their plan, but they do not receive Premium’s separate trial benefit. If most of the games you want are already in the Game Catalog, a trial may add little. If you regularly consider games outside the catalog, the ability to test selected titles can be the feature that pays for the upgrade.
Which players should choose Extra?
Choose Extra for catalog-first play
Extra is the better fit when your plan is straightforward: browse the current Game Catalog, download games, and use the shared online and storage benefits. It is also the economical choice at Sony’s displayed US monthly, quarterly, and annual prices.
Extra is especially sensible when you…
- Usually play on one PS4 or PS5 console and prefer downloads.
- Have a backlog in the current Game Catalog and do not need older Classics Catalog titles.
- Rarely buy games that would benefit from a trial.
- Do not have a reliable connection or compatible setup for cloud streaming.
- Want to minimize a recurring subscription while retaining the Game Catalog.
What Extra does not provide
Extra does not include the Classics Catalog, Premium game trials, or Premium cloud streaming. If any of those is a central requirement rather than a nice-to-have, the lower price should not be the deciding factor.
Which players should choose Premium?
Choose Premium for specific added features
Premium is appropriate when you can name the feature you will use: Classics Catalog games, trials for selected titles, or streaming on an eligible console or PC. It also includes the Sony Pictures Catalog listed by Sony for the US plan.
Premium is especially sensible when you…
- Want older PlayStation games that are not in the Game Catalog.
- Often evaluate games before buying and will use available trials.
- Have a connection that meets Sony’s streaming requirements and a compatible device.
- Value the option to stream eligible games instead of downloading them.
- Will use more than one of Premium’s additions rather than paying for a single occasional feature.
When Premium is poor value
Premium is difficult to justify if you subscribe only for the Game Catalog, because Extra already supplies it. It is also a weak fit when your favorite titles are not in the Classics Catalog, have no trial, or cannot be streamed in your region. Verify those details first.

A decision process that avoids overpaying
- Start with the game or feature you actually want. Write down the titles, older games, trials, or streaming use that motivated you. Do not start with the longer Premium feature list.
- Check the live regional catalog. Use Sony’s games page to confirm that each target title is in the Game Catalog or Classics Catalog and note any removal date.
- Verify streaming separately. If streaming is your reason for Premium, check that the exact game and your device are supported and that your region and account qualify.
- Measure your network. Compare your connection with Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum and 15 Mbps 1080p requirement, then account for normal household congestion.
- Compare the current billing options. Use the price shown in your PlayStation Store account. Treat the displayed $25 annual gap as a US snapshot, not a permanent global price.
- Choose the tier you will use repeatedly. If your list contains only downloadable Game Catalog games, select Extra. If you will regularly use Classics, trials, or streaming, Premium is the better match.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming catalog access means ownership
A download from either catalog remains tied to the membership and the title’s presence in the service. Games can leave, so do not build a long-term library on the assumption that every catalog entry stays available.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Buying Premium for a game that cannot stream
Cloud streaming covers eligible games only. Confirm the streaming option for the exact title; the Premium badge by itself is not proof that every game can be streamed.
Using a stale price
Subscriptions recur at the then-current PlayStation Store price. A price quoted in an old comparison may no longer apply, and regional prices can differ from the US figures.
Expecting a constant stream of PS4 additions
Sony says PS4 games will be added intermittently from January 2026 on its US comparison. If regular PS4 additions are your main reason to subscribe, review the current catalog rather than relying on a promised cadence.
Counting every listed feature as personal value
Premium’s extra features matter only when they change your play habits. A feature you never use has no practical value, even if it makes the Premium list look more complete.
Bottom-line recommendation
For most catalog-focused PS4 and PS5 players, PlayStation Plus Extra is the sensible default: it includes the Game Catalog, Ubisoft+ Classics, and all shared PlayStation Plus benefits at a lower price. Upgrade to Premium when the Classics Catalog, selected game trials, or eligible cloud streaming is a feature you will use often enough to justify the recurring difference. Check Sony’s current regional prices, catalog listings, removal dates, and streaming eligibility immediately before subscribing.
