Check your local catalog before subscribing, because game availability and prices vary by region and change over time.
What do Extra and Premium include?
PlayStation’s US plan comparison lists the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics with both Extra and Premium. Both also include the core benefits shown on the plan page, such as monthly games, online multiplayer, cloud storage, Share Play, discounts, and exclusive content. Premium adds the Classics Catalog, Game Trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog. PlayStation’s US plan comparison describes the US offering; benefits and availability may differ elsewhere.
The official PlayStation game finder separates the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog, and Game Trials, and lets you filter by RPG. Premium members can play games included in Essential and Extra, download or stream catalogue games, and access limited-time trials for select titles. The Premium extras matter most if you expect to use them—not simply because you play RPGs.
How much do Extra and Premium cost?
PlayStation’s US “What’s New” page displayed the following prices when accessed in 2026. These are US prices, not a universal price list; check your local PlayStation page and account for current prices and available subscription terms.

|---|---|---|---|
| Extra | $16.99 | $43.99 | $134.99 |
| Premium | $19.99 | $54.99 | $159.99 |
At those displayed US prices, Premium costs $3 more for one month, $11 more for three months, and $25 more for twelve months than Extra. The difference buys Premium’s added features, not a separate or larger version of the shared Game Catalog. See PlayStation’s US “What’s New” page for the listed terms.
Which tier has the RPGs you want to play?
Start with the games, not the tier label. Search the Game Catalog in your region for the RPGs on your shortlist: that catalog is included with both Extra and Premium. If your planned games are there, Premium does not unlock a higher tier of access to those shared titles.

Then check the Classics Catalog for particular older RPGs you want to play. The game finder has a separate filter for it, but a complete, dated RPG inventory for every country is not established here. Confirm each title in your own region’s finder before paying for Premium; a title’s presence, eligibility, or availability can vary.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When is Premium worth it for an RPG player?
- Choose Extra if the RPGs you want are in the shared Game Catalog and you do not expect to use Premium’s added features.
- Consider Premium if the Classics Catalog includes specific RPGs you want, or you will use game trials or cloud streaming enough to justify the local price difference.
- Recheck before subscribing because catalogue titles and eligibility change. PlayStation says new titles are added regularly and that PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026.
Account for streaming requirements
PlayStation states that cloud streaming requires a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. Some content and territories are excluded, so check local availability and whether your connection meets the requirement before treating streaming as a reason to upgrade. PlayStation’s US plan page lists the requirements and exclusions.

A quick decision checklist
- Open the PlayStation game finder for your country and filter the Game Catalog by RPG.
- Check whether the specific RPGs you plan to play are currently included.
- If you are considering Premium, filter the Classics Catalog and look for the older RPGs you actually want.
- Decide whether you will use game trials or cloud streaming; check streaming availability and speed requirements for your territory.
- Compare the current local prices, then choose Extra if the shared catalog covers your plans and Premium’s additions do not justify the difference.
