Sony shifted PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog toward PS5 titles starting in January 2026, but it did not end PS4 offerings. Sony says PS4 games will appear only occasionally, without specifying how often. Its August and September 2026 announcements included PS4 and cross-generation games, confirming that PS4 titles continued to appear after the change.
What Sony changed in January 2026
In a January 29, 2025 update, Sony Interactive Entertainment said: “As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026.” Sony’s announcement describes a change in emphasis, not a complete cutoff. The company also said some games may still be playable on both PS4 and PS5.

Sony did not define “occasionally” with a number, percentage, or schedule. There is no stated guarantee for how many PS4 games members will receive in a month or year, so a particular lineup should not be treated as a forecast for later months.
Monthly Games and Game Catalog are different benefits

These retention details are from Sony’s January 2025 announcement. They matter when checking a game’s status: a previously redeemed Monthly Game is treated differently from a Catalog listing that can rotate out.

PS4 games appeared in lineups after the shift
Sony’s post-change announcements show that “occasionally” does not mean “never.” The August 2026 Monthly Games announcement listed Signalis for PS4 and Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition for PS5 and PS4. See Sony’s August 2026 lineup.
Sony’s September 2026 lineup included Sniper Elite: Resistance for PS5 and PS4. See Sony’s September 2026 lineup. These are examples of PS4 support after January, not evidence of a predictable cadence or a minimum number of future offers.

Check the listing for your plan and region
Plan benefits and game availability can vary by subscription plan and market. Sony’s 2022 guide described Essential Monthly Games as a monthly refresh shared with higher tiers, and Extra and Premium/Deluxe Game Catalog additions as a separate mid-month refresh; that guide is historical, not a guarantee of current timing or availability. Check the current PlayStation Store listing and local subscription terms for a specific game, including its platform, plan eligibility, and any Catalog removal date. Sony’s PS Plus guide.

Keep redeeming any Monthly Games you want while they are offered: Sony says previously redeemed PS4 Monthly Games remain accessible as long as you maintain membership. Do not assume that a PS4 title in the Game Catalog will remain indefinitely; check its listing and removal date. For future additions, expect PS5 to be the focus and PS4 offerings to be occasional, with no published schedule.
