A report says two Sony model numbers, CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, appeared in Wi-Fi Alliance certification listings dated September 21, 2026. The entries do not identify a product or mention its screen, so a Portal revision—and OLED in particular—remain speculation.
What the certification report does—and does not—show
TweakTown reported on October 6, 2026 that Sony model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 were certified on September 21. The listings, as described in that report, do not name a PlayStation Portal or specify a display. The connection to the Portal family is an interpretation of the model numbers, not a confirmation from Sony.
The report also says the CFI-Y2000 listing specifies dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi up to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), with no Wi-Fi 6 or 6 GHz noted. That is a reading of one certification entry, not a complete specification for a confirmed retail device. It does not establish the capabilities or real-world performance of any eventual Portal revision.
How a rumored model compares with the confirmed Portal
Sony’s current Portal is a remote-play handheld with an 8-inch LCD. Its Taiwan product listing gives a 1080p resolution and up to 60 FPS. No successor, OLED or otherwise, has been confirmed in the cited sources.

What OLED could mean for image quality and battery life
An OLED screen might affect contrast, black levels, power use and the overall image, but the certification report contains no display information, and there is no confirmed OLED Portal to assess. Without an announced screen, specifications or testing, it is not possible to say whether a future model would look better or last longer on a charge than the LCD Portal.
What the current Portal does
PS5 Remote Play
The Portal streams compatible games installed on a PS5 over a network; it is not a standalone console. Sony says Remote Play requires a PS5 and PlayStation Network account. The console needs internet access and must be turned on or in Rest Mode. Sony’s Taiwan product page recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience and cautions that quality can vary with the network environment. That recommendation is not a guarantee of performance.
Sony’s Taiwan product page describes the current model’s screen and setup requirements. Its local price, model suffix and availability should not be assumed to apply in other regions. PlayStation Support says Portal Remote Play connects to PS5 and is not compatible with PS4. For audio, the device supports wired headphones with a 3.5 mm connector and PlayStation Link products, including PULSE Explore and PULSE Elite.

Cloud streaming
Cloud streaming is distinct from ordinary Remote Play: Sony says supported cloud streaming on Portal requires PlayStation Plus Premium, while Remote Play requires a PS5 setup instead. In a March 17, 2026 PlayStation Blog update, Sony announced a 1080p High Quality mode for both Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.

The company specified that these figures cover December 2025 to January 2026; they are Sony-reported usage statistics, not independently audited market-wide measurements.

There is no confirmed OLED model, release date, price or final feature set to weigh against the current Portal. If you need a device now, the existing LCD Portal is the only confirmed model in the cited sources. If the display technology is decisive for you, waiting means accepting that Sony may not announce an OLED revision at all. The certification report alone cannot resolve that choice.
