Sony has announced two new PS5-focused wireless headsets: PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset, coming to select markets during the 2026 holiday season, and the more feature-rich PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset, planned for early 2027. Both use custom planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link and simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity; Edge adds active noise cancellation, a detachable boom mic and PS5 game/chat balance controls. Sony has not announced prices, exact launch dates or preorder details.
What Sony announced
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset on September 15, 2026. Both are over-ear wireless headsets positioned for PS5 audio. Sony says each uses custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers and microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection.
The main distinction is that Pulse Edge adds features aimed at more flexible voice use and control, including active noise cancellation and a detachable boom mic. Sony describes its sound-quality goals as manufacturer claims; the announcement does not provide independent listening tests.

Sony says Edge has twice the magnet volume per planar driver compared with Pulse, with the aim of producing richer, deeper bass while maintaining precision and clarity. That is the manufacturer’s description of the intended result, not an independently verified sound comparison.

PlayStation Link, Bluetooth and supported devices
Sony says PlayStation Link provides lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and lets users switch between compatible Link devices. The company names PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac as devices that support PlayStation Link.
Both headsets can also connect simultaneously to supported Bluetooth devices. Sony does not list every compatible Bluetooth device, explain the connection behavior in detail, or specify which features work on each platform. The announcement therefore does not establish that every Bluetooth product is supported or that PS5-specific controls and features are available everywhere.

Design and microphone options
Sony says both models have an updated form factor with rotating earcups that let the headsets lie flat for portability. Each has an integrated microphone system with AI-enhanced noise rejection.
Pulse Edge includes a detachable boom mic as well as a hidden mic, which Sony says remains available when the boom mic is removed. The Pulse announcement lists an integrated microphone but does not describe a detachable boom mic.

Launch timing, price and preorders
Sony’s September 15, 2026 announcement gives broad launch windows rather than firm dates. The PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is planned to begin launching in select markets during the 2026 holiday season; Pulse Edge is planned to begin launching in early 2027.
Sony says it will provide further details, including preorder start dates, launch dates and prices. The announcement does not establish exact dates, prices, whether preorders are open, or availability in every market.

- Battery life, headset weight or measured latency.
- Independent audio-quality results or direct listening comparisons.
- Complete Bluetooth compatibility details, codecs or platform-by-platform feature support.
- Exact launch dates, prices, preorder status or availability beyond the stated launch windows and select-market qualification.
Joe Bentley, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of engineering, said the lineup’s planar magnetic drivers are intended to deliver “exceptional sound separation and spatial accuracy.” That is Sony’s product positioning, rather than a published test result.
