The October 13, 2026 report names affected titles and gives some before-and-after prices; it does not establish that the changes will spread to other regions or confirm Sony’s reason for them.
What changed in South Korea’s PlayStation Store?
On October 13, 2026, iXBT Games reported that prices for several games and virtual-currency items in South Korea had increased. Its account names Gamestalk as a source and attributes part of the information to GameMeca. The figures below are reported changes, not an independently audited price history.

The report said Sony first-party games, including Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War, retained their previous prices at the time. That is a snapshot, not a promise that their prices will remain unchanged.

There is no confirmed worldwide PlayStation Store game-price increase in the October 13 report. It says Sony had not confirmed that the South Korean changes would affect other regions. That means an international increase is unconfirmed—not that future changes have been ruled out.

The report said Sony Korea had requested clarification from headquarters. It did not provide a confirmed Sony explanation for the price changes. A representative of one publisher suggested exchange-rate adjustments as a possible factor, but that was the representative’s explanation, not an announced Sony policy.
How this differs from Sony’s confirmed 2026 hardware increase
Sony did announce a worldwide increase to recommended prices for PS5-family hardware and PlayStation Portal, effective April 2, 2026. That was a separate hardware announcement, not a PlayStation Store game-price announcement.

Sony’s March 27 announcement also listed UK, European, and Japanese hardware prices. Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global marketing, said the company decided to raise PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal prices globally “with continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The Associated Press also reported on that hardware decision; neither account establishes a worldwide rise in game prices.

No. TechRadar reported on March 10, 2026, that PSPrices had observed a Sony Store experiment involving different discounts for selected users in different regions. A September 9 TechRadar report described user reports of differing discounts on Star Wars Jedi games. Those stories concern discounts or experimental offer presentation; they do not explain the October South Korean price changes or prove that Sony is charging different base prices to all players.

Sony’s July 2026 investor Q&A summary said PS Plus profitability involves several factors, including pricing, subscription-tier mix, and content-acquisition efficiency. It did not say Sony planned an upcoming worldwide increase in PlayStation Store game prices.

What players outside South Korea should take from the report
- Treat the named prices and increases as South Korea-specific figures reported by iXBT Games, not as prices for other regions.
- Do not use approximate dollar conversions from the report as official US prices; the reported figures are in Korean won.
- Keep the hardware increase separate from digital game pricing: Sony confirmed the former, while a worldwide Store game-price increase has not been confirmed.
- Do not treat the publisher representative’s exchange-rate suggestion as Sony’s confirmed reason.
