The case can proceed, but the court has not found Sony liable and no UK player has been awarded a cash payout. The class and purchase window were updated in February 2026, and the notice’s 9 March 2026 opt-in and opt-out deadline has passed.
What is the UK PlayStation You Owe Us case?
Alex Neill Class Representative Limited is bringing an opt-out collective claim against Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited, Sony Interactive Entertainment Network Europe Limited and Sony Interactive Entertainment UK Limited. The Competition Appeal Tribunal describes the case as seeking damages for alleged breaches of the Competition Act 1998’s Chapter II prohibition and/or Article 102 TFEU. The representative alleges that Sony’s conduct in the PlayStation Store caused loss to people who bought digital games or add-on content there. Those are allegations, not established findings. The Tribunal’s case register records the proceedings and their timetable.

The Tribunal made a Collective Proceedings Order on 19 January 2024. That order allows the case to proceed collectively; it is not a ruling that Sony broke competition law. A later order dated 22 August 2025 set a timetable to trial, and the register lists further case-management orders through February 2026. These are procedural steps, not a decision on liability or compensation.
Who is included in the UK class?
A Tribunal-directed notice dated 13 February 2026 amended the class definition. It covers relevant paid PlayStation Store digital-game or add-on-content purchases made from 19 August 2016 through 12 February 2026. The notice describes a relevant purchase as one made by a UK PlayStation user who pays to access or download the game or add-on content. The amended class notice sets out the detailed membership rules.

The notice’s opt-in and opt-out deadline was 9 March 2026, which has passed. It also says class members who take no action are bound by judgments in the case and give up the right to bring their own separate claim over the same legal claims. People who opted out are not eligible for a payment from this case if money becomes available.

No UK payout has been confirmed. The official UK case materials reviewed do not establish that Sony is liable, that money has been awarded, or that each class member is owed a set amount. Any payment would depend on the outcome of the case and any distribution process that applies. The reviewed UK sources do not give a verified individual payout figure or confirmed class-member count, so media or campaign estimates should not be treated as an amount players will receive.

The phrase “cash payouts” can also lead to confusion with a separate U.S. proceeding. The two cases have different jurisdictions, eligibility rules and procedural statuses:
| Point of comparison | UK PlayStation You Owe Us | U.S. Caccuri settlement |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction and parties | UK Competition Appeal Tribunal claim brought by Alex Neill Class Representative Limited against three Sony entities. | Separate case, Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. |
| Purchase eligibility | Relevant paid PlayStation Store digital-game or add-on-content purchases from 19 August 2016 through 12 February 2026, subject to the class definition and participation rules in the Tribunal notice. | Qualifying games bought through the PlayStation Store from 1 April 2019 through 31 December 2023, subject to specified game-specific-voucher and price-change conditions. |
| Status | Collective proceedings are authorized and have a timetable to trial; no merits decision or UK award is established in the reviewed record. | A proposed settlement is subject to court approval. The administrator lists a fairness hearing for 15 October 2026. |
| Proposed payment form | No confirmed payment form or individual amount is stated in the reviewed UK sources. | The settlement FAQ describes cash-value PlayStation Store account credits to PSN wallets after permitted expenses, if approved and distributed under the settlement terms. |
The U.S. settlement FAQ reports a proposed $7,850,000 settlement, subject to court approval, and says the court has not decided whether Sony violated any laws. The administrator’s settlement notice and FAQ concern only that U.S. case. Neither its proposed amount nor its planned wallet-credit distribution applies to the UK claim.
