Sony’s PlayStation Store 30th Anniversary Sale began on December 2, 2024, and is a past promotion—not evidence of a sale running today. Sony named games including Gran Turismo 7, The Last of Us Part II and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, but said discounts and offer end dates varied by region and title. The “retro console themes” angle also needs a distinction: Sony offered anniversary wallpapers and PS1-inspired hardware, but its official pages do not establish that a PS5 system theme is currently available.
What was in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Sale?
Sony announced the PlayStation Store promotion on December 1, 2024, with the sale due to start December 2. The announcement named Gran Turismo 7, The Last of Us Part II and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy as examples, and said the selection also included add-ons. It did not set a single discount or end date for every shopper: Sony directed customers to each game’s PlayStation Store page for the regional offer and its end date. The sale announcement is therefore historical context, not confirmation of current availability. Read Sony’s December 1, 2024 sale announcement.

Were there retro PS5 themes?
The anniversary materials point to three different things that can be confused: themed physical hardware, downloadable wallpapers, and a console system appearance. Sony’s official anniversary pages support the first two. They do not confirm that a PS5 30th Anniversary system theme remains available, so a wallpaper should not be described as a PS5 interface theme.
Free anniversary wallpapers
Sony’s US anniversary site offers downloadable wallpapers for mobile, tablet and desktop. These are image files for those devices, not confirmation of a downloadable PS5 system theme. Availability should be checked on the official PlayStation 30th Anniversary page.

PS1-inspired hardware
Sony’s limited-edition collection used the original PlayStation’s colors and design cues across PS5 hardware and accessories. The original PlayStation launched on December 3, 1994. Sony announced a November 21, 2024 release for the collection; that announced date does not establish current stock or resale prices. Sony’s collection announcement describes the products and original configurations.
What was included in the 30th Anniversary Collection?
The collection mixed console bundles with standalone accessories. The configurations below describe Sony’s announcement, not current inventory or retailer availability.

Sony said 12,300 PS5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundles would be available. That is the number announced in 2024, not a current count of remaining units. Hideaki Nishino, then CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Platform Business Group, said the designs “pay homage to 30 wonderful years of gaming, a journey made possible by the passion and support of our fans and talented game developers.”
