Pokémon Champions has seven newly named Mega Evolution abilities: Mega Sol (Mega Meganium), Dragonize (Mega Feraligatr), Piercing Drill (Mega Excadrill), Eelevate (Mega Eelektross), Fire Mane (Mega Pyroar), Spicy Spray (Mega Scovillain), and Aura Guard (Mega Lucario Z).
The Pokémon Company has officially confirmed Mega Sol and Dragonize. The other five names and their mechanics come from the current specialist reference for Pokémon Champions. This guide separates those evidence levels and explains what each ability does. It reflects the announced ranked format Regulation Set M-C, scheduled for September 9 through December 2, 2026; regulation legality can change when the next set is published.

Mega Sol — Mega Meganium
Mega Sol lets Mega Meganium use its moves as though harsh sunlight were active, even when no harsh-sun weather effect has been set. The Pokémon Company describes it as a new ability in Pokémon Champions and says the Pokémon receives the same move-related effect it would receive under harsh sunlight.

In practical terms, Mega Sol is a self-contained weather interaction. Mega Meganium does not need another Pokémon to establish harsh sunlight before its moves receive that sunlight-based treatment. The announcement does not state that Mega Sol summons a field-wide weather condition, extends a weather timer, or changes how other Pokémon use weather-dependent abilities. Treat the confirmed part narrowly: Mega Meganium’s own moves are calculated as if harsh sunlight were present.
That makes the ability relevant when building a team around sunlight-sensitive move interactions without spending a turn on a separate weather setter. It can also preserve a different field condition for the rest of the team, because the announcement only attributes the sunlight effect to Mega Meganium’s moves.
Dragonize — Mega Feraligatr
Dragonize changes Mega Feraligatr’s Normal-type moves into Dragon-type moves and increases the power of those converted moves by 20 percent. The Pokémon Company explicitly gives both parts of the mechanic: type conversion and the power increase.
The conversion applies to the user’s Normal-type moves, not automatically to every move Mega Feraligatr knows. Once a qualifying move is treated as Dragon type, the 20 percent boost applies to that converted move. The mechanic therefore changes how the move interacts with type matchups and any effects that care about a move’s type, while leaving non-Normal moves outside the stated ability.
Dragonize creates a straightforward reason to select Normal-type attacks on Mega Feraligatr: they become Dragon attacks with an additional power increase. The official announcement supplies the 20 percent figure; it does not provide a win-rate study or claim that Dragonize is the strongest ability in ranked play.
Piercing Drill — Mega Excadrill
Piercing Drill allows Mega Excadrill’s contact moves to damage a target that is using a protective move for one quarter of the move’s normal damage. Other effects of the move still activate, according to the specialist reference.

This is a partial answer to defensive turns rather than a complete bypass. A protected target takes reduced damage instead of avoiding damage entirely, and the move’s additional effects are not erased simply because protection was active. The reference describes the trigger as contact moves, so a non-contact attack should not be treated as receiving this protection-piercing behavior.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The tactical role is pressure against opponents that rely on a protective move to scout or stall. You still need to account for the reduced damage and for the fact that the ability does not turn every attack into a protection breaker. The one-quarter figure is an ability mechanic reported by the specialist reference, not a measured competitive-performance statistic.
Eelevate — Mega Eelektross
Eelevate gives Mega Eelektross immunity to Ground-type moves and to the entry hazards Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web. In addition, knocking out a target with an attack raises Mega Eelektross’s highest stat by one stage.
The immunities cover both direct attacks and the listed hazards. The second effect is conditional on an attack producing the knockout; a knockout caused by a status condition or another indirect event is not described as satisfying that condition. The reference says “highest stat” rather than naming a fixed stat, so the effect is based on whichever of Mega Eelektross’s stats is highest under the game’s stat rules.
Eelevate therefore combines switch-in protection with a snowballing reward for securing an attack-based knockout. Its value depends on whether you can create a safe entry and then finish an opponent, but no source cited here reports usage rates, damage benchmarks, or tournament results.

Fire Mane — Mega Pyroar
Fire Mane increases the power of Mega Pyroar’s Fire-type moves by 50 percent. The specialist reference presents this as a direct power multiplier for moves of that type.
The wording is limited to Fire-type moves used by Mega Pyroar. It does not say that the ability changes a move’s type, boosts other types, or modifies the power of an ally’s attack. When planning a set, treat Fire Mane as a focused Fire-offense effect and evaluate coverage moves separately.

A 50 percent increase is a mechanical value, not evidence that Mega Pyroar wins 50 percent more games or is automatically the best Fire attacker. The source does not include an independent competitive study.
Spicy Spray — Mega Scovillain
Spicy Spray burns an attacker that damages Mega Scovillain with a move. The specialist reference describes the trigger as the attacker being burned after damaging the user with a move.
This differs from a mechanic limited specifically to physical contact: the reported wording says an attacker that damages Mega Scovillain with a move. Do not extend the claim to status damage, weather damage, hazards, or other non-move sources, because those triggers are not stated. Likewise, the reference does not give a probability, so the effect should not be presented as a chance-based burn.
Burning the attacker can impose an ongoing status penalty and makes direct attacks into Mega Scovillain costly. The ability’s usefulness still depends on Mega Scovillain surviving the incoming move; Spicy Spray is a retaliation effect, not an immunity.
Aura Guard — Mega Lucario Z
Aura Guard reduces damage from moves that make physical contact by 50 percent. The specialist reference assigns Aura Guard to Mega Lucario Z.
The condition is contact: the reduction applies to moves that physically make contact with Mega Lucario Z, while a move that does not make contact should not be assumed to receive the same reduction. The mechanic reduces incoming damage; it does not state that Mega Lucario Z becomes immune, reflects the move, or blocks secondary effects.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Aura Guard’s role is therefore contact-oriented durability. It can change the calculation for an opponent deciding whether to use a contact attack, but it does not by itself protect against every physical move or against special attacks. Mega Lucario Z is also one of the forms specifically named as newly allowed in Regulation Set M-C.
New names versus familiar abilities on new Mega forms
“New Mega Evolution ability” can mean either a newly created ability name or an ability assigned to a newly announced Mega form. Those categories are not identical.
The Pokémon Company says Mega Raichu X has Electric Surge and Mega Raichu Y has No Guard. Both are recognizable ability names, so they are not included among the seven newly created names listed above. They still matter when reading Mega Evolution announcements because a form can be new while its ability is established elsewhere in the series.
Keeping the categories separate prevents two common errors: counting Electric Surge or No Guard as an eighth new Champions ability, or assuming that every newly revealed Mega form must receive a brand-new ability name.

What Regulation Set M-C means for these abilities
Regulation Set M-C is scheduled to run from September 9 through December 2, 2026. Its official notice says Mega Evolution may be used only once per battle. You cannot Mega Evolve multiple Pokémon during the same battle, so selecting a form is also selecting the one Mega Evolution opportunity for that match.
The M-C notice names six Mega forms as newly allowed:

| Mega Baxcalibur | Not one of the seven forms tied to a newly named ability in this guide |
The notice establishes Mega Lucario Z as newly allowed in M-C. It does not establish that every other form in the complete Mega ability reference is legal in this regulation, nor does the list of six newly allowed forms by itself describe every form that may remain legal from an earlier set. Check the full, current M-C roster before entering a ranked battle.
Earlier rotations show why a date matters. Regulation Set M-A ran from April 8 to June 17, 2026. Regulation Set M-B ran from June 17 to September 9, 2026, and its updates included Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y among the forms added during that period. A form’s availability in M-A or M-B is not a permanent guarantee for M-C.

Start with the trigger, not the species
Each ability asks for a different condition: Mega Sol references harsh-sun move behavior; Dragonize requires Normal-type moves; Piercing Drill requires contact moves and a protected target; Eelevate rewards an attack knockout; Fire Mane rewards Fire-type moves; Spicy Spray requires an opponent’s move to damage the user; and Aura Guard checks whether the incoming move makes contact. Build the moveset around the trigger the ability actually names rather than assuming every attack benefits equally.
Account for the one-Mega limit
Because M-C allows Mega Evolution only once per battle, decide which ability supplies the most important function for the matchup before committing. A weather-style effect, hazard immunity, contact reduction, and protection pressure solve different problems. The available evidence supports describing those functions; it does not support declaring one universally superior or assigning a competitive tier.
Verify legality immediately before a ranked session
Regulation dates and permitted forms rotate. Confirm that the form, ability, and moveset are legal under the active regulation rather than relying on a screenshot, older team code, or an M-A or M-B roster. The M-C window identified here ends December 2, 2026, after which a new notice may change the answer.
What is officially confirmed
The Pokémon Company’s March 24, 2026 announcement explicitly calls Mega Sol and Dragonize new abilities appearing for the first time in Pokémon Champions and supplies Dragonize’s 20 percent power increase. The same announcement explains Mega Sol through its harsh-sunlight move effect.
The five remaining names—Piercing Drill, Eelevate, Fire Mane, Spicy Spray, and Aura Guard—and the detailed mechanics attributed to them are reported by the current specialist reference checked October 13, 2026. Until an official announcement or in-game documentation independently confirms those entries, treat that attribution as the appropriate level of certainty.
No named-person quotation, external study, or competitive-performance statistic establishes that any one of these abilities produces better results than the others. The percentages and fractions in this guide describe ability mechanics: Dragonize’s 20 percent boost, Piercing Drill’s one-quarter damage through protection, and the 50 percent reductions or boosts reported for Fire Mane and Aura Guard.
