Pokémon Champions Singles Tier List: Build a Ranked Team Around the September 2026 Meta

Short answer: The September 2026 Pokémon Champions Single Battle snapshot puts Mega Salamence first at 41.5% of teams, followed by Primarina at 31.7%, Gholdengo at 28.7%, Garchomp at 28.2%, and Mega Golisopod at 26.8%. Those figures identify the most popular building blocks, not a guaranteed winning six. Season M-7 is listed under Regulation M-C, but its eligible roster and battle parameters can change, so confirm the in-game rules before you queue.

What this Pokémon Champions singles tier list actually measures

This is a usage-led tier list for Ranked Single Battle, using the largest cited snapshot available for the current rules discussion: 69,462 Battle Stadium singles battles recorded by PokeTools in September 2026. PokeTools groups species into usage bands: S covers ranks 1–5, A covers ranks 6–15, B covers ranks 16–30, and C covers ranks 31–60.

A usage percentage is the share of sampled teams that included a Pokémon. It is not a win rate, a matchup chart, a tournament result, or proof that one unchanging team of six is optimal. A popular Pokémon may be easy to fit, may compress several roles, or may simply be fashionable during that month. Your final three selections for a battle should answer the needs of your other three team members and the opponent’s likely threats.

PokeTools lists Mega forms separately from their base species. Treat Mega Salamence and ordinary Salamence, for example, as separate entries when reading the rankings. The Mega slot is also a team-building opportunity cost: choosing one Mega can prevent another Mega option from occupying that role in the same battle.

Current Ranked context: Season M-7 and Regulation M-C

The official Pokémon Champions gameplay information lists Ranked, Casual, and Private Battles, each available in Single Battle and Double Battle. Ranked results affect rank and VP, and VP is used to recruit and train Pokémon. The official page also says Mega Evolution is available under the first Ranked Battle rules and that each season’s regulation can change the eligible Pokémon and other parameters.

The previous M-6 notice dates its run from September 9, 2026, at 02:00 UTC through October 7, 2026, at 01:59 UTC and identifies Regulation Set M-C. A Serebii Season M-7 listing places M-7 from October 7 through November 5, 2026, also under M-C. That secondary listing describes Single Battle as selecting three to six Pokémon, with level 50 Pokémon, seven minutes of player time, 90 seconds for team preview, and 45 seconds per turn. Confirm those timers, the legal roster, and any item or move restrictions on the in-game regulation screen before building around them.

The official site warns that “New regulations for Ranked Battles will be set every few seasons to mix up the competition and keep Trainers on their toes.” A team that is legal and effective in one regulation can lose access to a key species or mechanic in the next.

S tier: the five most-used singles Pokémon

Rank band Pokémon September 2026 team share Most-used item Common moves listed by PokeTools
S (rank 1) Mega Salamence 41.5% Salamencite Double-Edge, Earthquake, Dragon Dance
S (rank 2) Primarina 31.7% Leftovers Moonblast, Sparkling Aria, Aqua Jet
S (rank 3) Gholdengo 28.7% Air Balloon Shadow Ball, Make It Rain, Nasty Plot
S (rank 4) Garchomp 28.2% Choice Scarf Earthquake, Stealth Rock, Dragon Tail
S (rank 5) Mega Golisopod 26.8% Golisopite Iron Head, First Impression, Sucker Punch

These percentages come from the September 2026 PokeTools sample, not an M-7-only report and not official win-rate statistics. They are useful for estimating what you are likely to encounter and for finding proven-to-be-popular role combinations, but they should not be read as a power score.

Mega Salamence

Mega Salamence is the clear usage leader at 41.5%. The listed combination of Salamencite, Double-Edge, Earthquake, and Dragon Dance points to a set that can threaten a sweep after setup while retaining immediate coverage. When considering it, ask whether your other choices can create a safe Dragon Dance turn, handle opposing Ice- or Fairy-oriented pressure, and avoid stacking the same defensive weaknesses.

Primarina

Primarina appears on 31.7% of sampled teams. Leftovers, Moonblast, Sparkling Aria, and Aqua Jet indicate a mix of sustained presence, special attacks, and priority. It can fill a different type of offensive slot from Mega Salamence, but the useful question is not whether both are popular; it is whether your three-Pokémon selection needs Primarina’s damage profile and priority more than another available option.

Gholdengo

Gholdengo’s 28.7% share makes it the third-most common entry. Air Balloon, Shadow Ball, Make It Rain, and Nasty Plot describe a high-pressure special set with a setup route. Before selecting it, check how your team handles opposing Steel- and Ghost-oriented attacks and whether you can preserve Air Balloon’s value for the matchup where it matters.

Garchomp

Garchomp reaches 28.2%, with Choice Scarf, Earthquake, Stealth Rock, and Dragon Tail the listed common choices. That is an unusual blend of speed, hazard setting, and forced movement for a single slot. A Scarf user can shape your speed plan, but locking into a move creates its own opportunity cost; make sure the rest of the roster can exploit the turns Garchomp creates.

Mega Golisopod

Mega Golisopod is present on 26.8% of teams. The listed Golisopite set uses Iron Head, First Impression, and Sucker Punch, giving it immediate priority options alongside a Steel attack. When pairing it with another priority user, examine whether you are gaining complementary targets or merely repeating the same endgame plan.

A tier: common alternatives from ranks 6–15

Pokémon September 2026 team share
Hippowdon 23.3%
Archaludon 23.0%
Mega Lucario Z 20.7%
Mimikyu 15.2%
Rillaboom 14.8%
Meowscarada 13.1%
Corviknight 12.3%
Baxcalibur 11.3%
Basculegion 10.9%
Alolan Ninetales 10.3%

A-tier entries are still widespread enough to be regular parts of the ladder’s threat landscape. Their lower shares do not make them inferior in every matchup. Use them when their role solves a problem your S-tier candidates leave open—for example, when you need a particular speed-control plan, defensive profile, or endgame tool. PokeTools provides item and move information for these entries on its data page; verify the current set details there and in the game rather than assuming that every player uses the same build.

Aegislash 9.8%
Mega Garchomp Z 7.5%

Umbreon 6.1%
Sneasler 5.8%
Mega Gengar 5.3%
Cinderace 5.2%
Mega Charizard Y 5.1%

B-tier usage is often a reason to investigate, not a reason to dismiss. These Pokémon can be valuable when they supply a specific answer, compress two jobs, or punish a common S- and A-tier pattern. Their lower representation also means you should test them against the threats you expect instead of assuming that a less common pick is automatically surprising or safe.

C tier: lower-use choices recorded in the snapshot

Pokémon September 2026 team share
Mega Blastoise 4.8%
Mega Swampert 4.8%
Grimmsnarl 4.7%
Mega Metagross 4.7%
Mega Absol Z 4.5%

PokeTools continues the C-tier list through Dragonite at 2.1%; the cited summary does not provide every intervening species and percentage. Consult the live table before quoting or building around an individual lower-ranked entry. A C-tier Pokémon can still be the right sixth option if it supplies a role your core cannot otherwise cover, but the burden of testing is higher because the usage snapshot gives less evidence about how often it succeeds on the ladder.

How to turn a popularity list into a functional team

Use the tiers as a starting pool, then make decisions in this order. The process prevents you from copying five popular names and discovering that they share one exploitable weakness.

  1. Choose a win condition. Decide whether your games are meant to end with Dragon Dance, Nasty Plot, priority damage, hazard pressure, or a different plan supported by your chosen Pokémon. Mega Salamence and Gholdengo are examples of S-tier entries with explicitly listed setup moves, but the tier list does not prove either setup route is universally best.
  2. Add speed control. Identify how you will act first against fast attackers: a Choice Scarf user such as the common Garchomp set, priority such as Aqua Jet or Sucker Punch, speed manipulation, or a naturally faster Pokémon. Do not count several slow priority attacks as a complete speed plan; they may fail against targets that resist them or attack from outside their range.
  3. Cover the first two selections. List the attacks and defensive traits that threaten your initial pair. Add a Pokémon that addresses the most dangerous gap rather than simply selecting the next highest usage percentage.
  4. Check role overlap. Two Pokémon may both demand the same item, Mega slot, setup turn, or field condition. Decide which one gets the resource and whether the other still contributes when it is not selected.
  5. Build a legal six, then select three. Ranked Single Battle team preview rewards a broad six that can produce several legal trios. Each trio should have a lead or opening plan, a midgame pivot or breaker, and a way to close the game.
  6. Test the team against the expected ladder. Record whether losses came from speed, damage thresholds, poor lead choices, a missing defensive answer, or an item conflict. Change one variable at a time so you know which adjustment helped.

Role and matchup checks for the top five

When Mega Salamence is your Mega choice

  • Confirm the rest of the roster can create a safe Dragon Dance opportunity.
  • Check whether Double-Edge recoil or repeated switching leaves you without a second win condition.
  • Do not select a second Mega in the same three-Pokémon plan without confirming how the regulation handles Mega selection and your team’s resource commitment.

When Primarina is your stabilizing attacker

  • Decide whether Leftovers recovery is valuable in the expected matchup or whether the Pokémon is being used only for immediate damage.
  • Map targets for Moonblast, Sparkling Aria, and Aqua Jet separately; priority is not a replacement for reliable speed control against every threat.
  • Pair it with a teammate that handles attacks Primarina cannot comfortably absorb rather than adding another Pokémon with identical defensive demands.

When Gholdengo is your special setup threat

  • Preserve Air Balloon when its immunity changes a key matchup; do not treat it as disposable by default.
  • Plan the turn on which Nasty Plot can be used without giving the opponent a free knockout or setup of their own.
  • Ensure your team has a response if the opponent forces Gholdengo to attack before it can set up.

When Garchomp is your speed and hazard slot

  • Choice Scarf improves speed but restricts move selection after you commit.
  • Use Stealth Rock only when the expected game length and switching patterns justify giving up immediate damage.
  • Dragon Tail is most useful when your team benefits from forcing movement; avoid relying on it as your only answer to a setup sweeper.

When Mega Golisopod is your priority attacker

  • Identify which targets First Impression can remove or heavily damage at the start of a game.
  • Keep a plan for turns when First Impression is unavailable or the opponent resists it.
  • Compare its Iron Head and Sucker Punch coverage with the rest of your team so priority attacks are complementary rather than redundant.

Three practical team-building patterns

Setup offense

Start with one setup attacker, such as a Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot user from the S tier, then add a way to force the setup turn and a fast or priority-based cleaner. The remaining slots should cover the attack types that stop your setup user, not simply add more sweepers. This pattern can win quickly but is vulnerable if the opponent denies setup turns or carries a faster revenge killer.

Hazard pressure and forced movement

A team built around Stealth Rock and repeated switching can make Garchomp’s listed Stealth Rock and Dragon Tail combination meaningful. Add a partner that turns forced switches into damage or positioning, then include a closer that benefits from weakened targets. Because the usage data does not report full team records or damage benchmarks, treat this as a construction hypothesis to test, not a proven core.

  • And you will also find a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.

Priority-backed balance

Combine a durable midgame plan with priority such as Aqua Jet, First Impression, or Sucker Punch. The advantage is insurance when speed control fails; the risk is that priority can be resisted, blocked, or too weak to finish a target. Include at least one method of dealing meaningful damage before the endgame so the priority users are not asked to do every job.

A worked selection example without claiming a “best” six

Suppose you begin with Mega Salamence because its 41.5% usage makes it a common threat and its listed Dragon Dance set supplies a clear win condition. You could then evaluate Garchomp for speed and Stealth Rock, but you must check whether the two share exploitable defensive pressure. Primarina might fill a different offensive profile and provide Aqua Jet, while Gholdengo offers special damage and Nasty Plot. Mega Golisopod adds a second priority pattern but competes for the Mega slot, so it belongs in an alternate six rather than automatically joining Mega Salamence.

From there, use an A- or B-tier entry to repair the largest remaining gap. If the team cannot answer a particular attacking type, lacks a safe lead, or has no way to close games after Salamence is weakened, select for that need. The result is an example of the decision process, not a tested recommendation or a claim that these names form the strongest fixed composition.

Preparation before entering Ranked Single Battle

  1. Open the current Ranked Battle regulation information in Pokémon Champions.
  2. Confirm that every species, Mega form, move, item, and level requirement on your six is legal for the active regulation.
  3. Check whether the battle is Single Battle rather than Double Battle; the game supports both formats under Ranked, Casual, and Private play.
  4. Practice team preview by writing down the three-Pokémon combinations you will select into common S- and A-tier threats.
  5. Review the active season dates and rule changes whenever a new regulation begins. The M-7 dates and timer details cited above come from a secondary listing and should be treated as provisional until the game displays them.

Common mistakes when using a singles tier list

  • Equating usage with victory. The September table measures team share, not win rate.
  • Copying all five S-tier names. Popular Pokémon can overlap in roles, items, Mega requirements, or weaknesses.
  • Ignoring the three-Pokémon decision. A six-Pokémon roster needs several coherent trios; a strong bench does not rescue a poor selection in battle.
  • Using stale legality information. Regulation M-C is current in the cited M-7 listing, but seasonal rules can change the eligible roster.
  • Assuming one listed set is mandatory. Common moves and items describe what appeared often in the snapshot, not the only legal or effective build.
  • Overvaluing a low-usage surprise. A rare pick is useful only if it solves a real matchup or role problem on your team.

Bottom line for building in the current snapshot

Use Mega Salamence, Primarina, Gholdengo, Garchomp, and Mega Golisopod as the first five names to study because they led the September 2026 singles usage table. Then move beyond popularity: assign a win condition, speed plan, defensive coverage, and a coherent three-Pokémon selection. Before spending VP or entering Ranked, verify the active in-game Regulation M-C rules, because the September usage snapshot is not an M-7-only sample and seasonal eligibility can change.
