Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version launched on Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2026. They are separate digital purchases, each listed at a U.S. suggested retail price of $19.99, and both are compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. They support local wireless play, but not online play. Nintendo announced the release and pricing; its U.S. product listing confirms the date and platform details.
What’s included in the Switch versions?
These are the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, originally released in Japan in 1996. The games revisit the Kanto region and include the original 151 Pokémon, along with the Sevii Islands and GBA-era mechanics such as Pokémon abilities, natures, weather, held items, and a choice of player-character gender. Nintendo’s announcement describes the remakes and their content.
The Switch versions adapt connectivity features for local wireless, replacing the original Game Link Cable or Wireless Adapter. Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives a 39 MB file size and supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. It lists single-system play for one player and local wireless for two to five players. See the product listing for FireRed.
How much do they cost, and how do you buy them?
Nintendo’s U.S. announcement listed each game at a suggested retail price of $19.99 USD. FireRed and LeafGreen are sold individually as digital software; Nintendo says there will be no physical Switch releases. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to buy or play them. Nintendo’s support FAQ covers the digital-only format and membership requirement.

There are separate language editions, so check the product page before purchasing. In the Americas, the available versions are American English, European French, and European Spanish. The language cannot be changed in-game after purchase. Nintendo lists American English for its U.S. product page. The support FAQ explains the language editions.
Can you trade and battle with other players?
Yes, through local wireless. Players can trade, battle, and chat in the Pokémon Wireless Club. Up to four other players can connect to your game, for five players total. Online play is not supported, as Nintendo Support states.

Do the games work on Nintendo Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo lists Switch 2 compatibility and says the games behave consistently with their Switch versions. The games are standalone purchases, not part of the Game Boy Advance Nintendo Classics collection. Nintendo’s support FAQ addresses both points.
What about Pokémon HOME?
Nintendo’s U.S. product listing says that starting in October 2026, players will be able to bring Pokémon caught and trained in FireRed to Pokémon HOME. It also says completing FireRed’s Pokédex in HOME makes a special Celebi available as a Mystery Gift. The listing gives an October start month, not confirmation that transfers are live as of October 8, 2026; check the current HOME app and transfer instructions for availability. The FireRed product listing has Nintendo’s announcement.
