Its 45 interchangeable cartridges cue music and sound effects from the original Pokémon games. The Pokémon Company presented it as part of Pokémon’s 30th-anniversary celebration.
What the Game Boy Jukebox does
Each of the 45 cartridges selects a piece of game audio. The Pokémon Company’s UK announcement describes the sounds as songs and effects from the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue releases. The official announcement introduces the item as a Game Boy-like player and part of the anniversary celebration.
It is not a Game Boy Mini and does not play games. Its screen and buttons are decorative, according to Nintendojo’s launch report. The product is best understood as a small audio device and collectible that recreates the look of the original handheld.
What comes in the collection
Nintendojo reported that the package includes one player, 45 cartridges, and a storage case. The cartridges cover familiar music cues, including “Title Screen,” “Pallet Town Theme,” “Professor Oak,” and “Professor Oak’s Laboratory,” as well as “Hall of Fame” and “Ending Theme.” Those examples come from Nintendojo’s reported track list, rather than a separately verified transcription of the full product packaging.

The same report says the player requires three LR44 button-cell batteries and that the included cells are for demonstration purposes. The official Japanese product page describes the device as approximately 8.5 cm tall and 5.2 cm wide, with 45 interchangeable cartridges. That page presents the Japanese version as the Pokémon Red/Green Game Music Collection.
Red/Blue internationally, Red/Green in Japan
The naming difference reflects the regional releases: international materials call the collection Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, while the Japanese product page calls it Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green. The original Japanese games launched in 1996. Keep the regional naming in mind when looking for product listings or announcements; it does not indicate a different device in the materials cited here.

Launch price and availability were regional
On February 27, 2026, Nintendo Life reported launch availability through Pokémon Center in North America and the UK, at launch prices of $69.99 and £59.99 respectively. These are historical launch prices, not confirmed current prices or evidence of present stock. Nintendo Life’s report also said the device has no headphone jack, based on the outlet’s inquiry; that detail is secondary reporting, not an official specification in the cited Pokémon announcement.
Pokémon Taiwan announced a March 14, 2026 appearance at Pokémon Center Taipei and described the set as containing all 45 tracks. That is a dated, regional retail announcement and does not establish current availability elsewhere. The Taiwan announcement is useful for its local context, not as a present-day stock check.

Why the sound is part of the appeal
During the Pokémon Presents segment, composer Junichi Masuda said, as quoted in Nintendo Life’s report, that the team “took particular care to make the audio sound just like a Game Boy”. The quoted fragment captures the product’s purpose: it presents the familiar game audio in a dedicated, cartridge-based collectible rather than recreating the games themselves.
