Black Kyurem and White Kyurem share the same weaknesses in Pokémon Go: Fighting, Rock, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy. Build your raid team around Pokémon with strong attacks of those types. Dragon attackers can deal effective damage, but they also face extra risk from the bosses’ Dragon attacks.

What are Black Kyurem and White Kyurem weak to?

Both fused forms are Dragon/Ice type in Pokémon Go. Fighting-, Rock-, Dragon-, Steel-, and Fairy-type attacks are effective against either boss, so you can use the same general counter strategy for both.

Whenever possible, match a Pokémon’s attack type to its own type. Pokémon.com’s raid guide says this same-type attack bonus adds 20% damage. The bonus applies to the attack, not to the Pokémon’s overall damage in every circumstance.

Which Pokémon are good counters?

Pokémon.com’s official raid guide lists the following examples and moves. These are options to consider, not a universal ranking: the best choice depends on your Pokémon’s moves, CP, and overall stats. Move availability can change, so check your Pokémon’s current moves in game.

Attack type Pokémon examples Moves named in the official guide
Fighting Lucario, Mega Lucario, Conkeldurr, Shadow Conkeldurr Lucario: Counter or Force Palm; Aura Sphere or Close Combat. Conkeldurr: Counter; Dynamic Punch or Focus Blast.
Steel Dusk Mane Necrozma, Metagross, Shadow Metagross, Dialga, Shadow Dialga, Excadrill Metal Claw; Meteor Mash, Sunsteel Strike, Iron Head, or Flash Cannon, depending on the Pokémon.
Dragon Rayquaza, Mega Rayquaza, Latios, Mega Latios, Palkia, Shadow Palkia Dragon Tail or Dragon Breath; Breaking Swipe, Dragon Claw, Outrage, or Draco Meteor.
Fairy Gardevoir, Shadow Gardevoir, Mega Gardevoir Charm and Dazzling Gleam.
Rock The guide excerpt does not name a Rock-focused counter. The guide identifies Rock as an effective attack type but does not provide a corresponding example in the excerpt.

For any weakness type, Pokémon.com recommends favoring your highest-CP options with the best overall stats among Pokémon that have suitable attacks. Its examples do not establish a fixed counter order for every player’s roster.

Should you use Dragon-type counters?

Dragon attacks are effective, but Dragon-type Pokémon are vulnerable to most of the attacks available to Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. A fragile or underpowered Dragon attacker may therefore be a riskier choice than a strong Fighting, Rock, Steel, or Fairy option. Consider both the damage your Pokémon can deal and how well it can withstand the boss’s attacks.

How can you improve raid damage?

  • Use matching-type attacks: A Pokémon receives the 20% same-type attack bonus described in Pokémon.com’s guide when its attack matches its type.
  • Raid with a party: Party Power boosts your next Charged Attack when activated. It charges faster with more party members.
  • Consider a Mega Evolution: While a Mega-Evolved Pokémon is battling, it boosts raid damage for participating Pokémon that share its type.
  • Keep victory speed in mind: The guide says a faster win affects how many Premier Balls you receive after a successful raid.

Are Black Kyurem and White Kyurem available in raids now?

The official Pokémon GO notice covered Kyurem Fusion Raid Day on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time. It described Reshiram and Black Kyurem appearing first, followed by Zekrom and White Kyurem in alternating half-hour periods. That was a dated event, not confirmation of current availability. Check the in-game raid schedule for current appearances.

The notice explains that Kyurem fuses with Zekrom to become Black Kyurem and with Reshiram to become White Kyurem. Fusing Black Kyurem costs 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Zekrom Candy; fusing White Kyurem costs 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Reshiram Candy. Separating either form costs no Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy. The notice also says fused forms cannot be traded, transferred to the professor, or transferred to Pokémon HOME.
