Blanche’s Quest for Knowledge ran from May 26 at 10:00 a.m. through June 1, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. in each player’s local time. It is over: the GO Pass closed at the end of the event, and unclaimed rewards expired on June 3 at 7:59 p.m. local time. The event’s Pokémon appeared through different channels—wild encounters, Incense and Field Research—while the optional paid Deluxe track added rewards to the free progression pass.
Event dates, times and deadlines
Niantic presented Blanche’s Quest for Knowledge as a research-focused adventure. Because every time in the announcement was local time, there was no single worldwide start or finish moment. A player in each time zone received the event during the corresponding local window.

How Blanche’s Quest for Knowledge worked
Research activities supplied the encounters
The event’s design put its featured Pokémon in three separate encounter systems. Some species appeared in the wild, some required Incense, and others were tied to Field Research. Seeing a Pokémon in one list did not mean it was available through every other channel.
#1 Best Overall
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
- Wild play: look for the event’s increased spawns and the separately announced species that could also be found in the wild.
- Incense: activate Incense to use the dedicated encounter pool.
- Field Research: spin PokéStops, collect event tasks and complete the objective to receive one of the task’s listed encounter rewards.
The GO Pass progression track
Pokémon GO described a GO Pass as “a free, limited-time progression track available during a specified period.” Blanche’s pass was issued automatically at 10:00 a.m. local time on May 26. Completing Pass Tasks awarded GO Points; accumulating enough points raised the pass rank and unlocked rewards. The pass could be progressed until 8:00 p.m. local time on June 1.
The special final-period rule mattered to players who had fallen behind. From midnight on May 30 until 7:59 p.m. on June 1, earning GO Points had no daily limit. That gave the remaining event window a catch-up opportunity, but it did not extend the final rank or reward-claim deadline.
Which Pokémon appeared, and where?
More frequent wild appearances
The official announcement identified five Pokémon as appearing more frequently in the wild:
Recommended Free Tools
- Squirtle
- Alolan Vulpix
- Krabby
- Staryu
- Galarian Zigzagoon
Additional Pokémon that could be encountered in the wild
A separate line in the announcement said Trainers might encounter these three species in the wild:
- Lapras
- Vaporeon
- Larvitar
That wording set them apart from the “appearing more frequently” group. It did not promise a particular spawn rate or imply that all three were as common as the five featured increased-spawn species.

Incense encounters
Using Incense produced a different eight-species pool:
- Cubone
- Horsea
- Lapras
- Vaporeon
- Larvitar
- Sableye
- Clamperl
- Cubchoo
Lapras, Vaporeon and Larvitar therefore appeared in both the separately announced wild list and the Incense list. Cubone, Horsea, Sableye, Clamperl and Cubchoo were specifically listed for Incense rather than the increased-wild-spawn group.

Completing event Field Research could award encounters with any of the following 12 Pokémon:

- Horsea

- Lapras
- Larvitar
- Sableye
- Cubchoo
- Sinistea
- Tandemaus
This pool included Sinistea and Tandemaus, neither of which appeared in the announcement’s wild or Incense lists. Conversely, Clamperl was listed for Incense but not in the Field Research encounter pool.
Field Research tasks and encounter rewards
The official event announcement gave the Field Research encounter pool but did not map individual tasks to their possible rewards. The task-to-encounter combinations below come from Leek Duck’s event guide, so they should be read as that guide’s reported possibilities rather than as a table published in the official overview.

| Hatch an Egg | Sableye, Cubchoo or Sinistea |
| Win a raid | Lapras, Larvitar or Sinistea |
| Trade a Pokémon | Sinistea or Tandemaus |
| Complete 3 Field Research tasks | Alolan Vulpix, Horsea or Sinistea |
| Complete 4 Field Research tasks | Lapras, Larvitar or Sinistea |

How to use the task list
Players choosing tasks historically had to balance the objective against the desired encounter. “Catch 5 Pokémon” was the most direct route to Squirtle, Horsea or Krabby, while “Explore 1 km” favored walking-based play. Hatching an Egg, winning a raid and trading each required a different activity, and the multi-task objectives rewarded continued research completion rather than one isolated action.
The possible rewards were alternatives, not a guarantee that every listed species would appear from one task. A completed task produced an encounter from that task’s reward set.
Free GO Pass rewards and milestone bonuses
Every Trainer received the free pass automatically; no purchase was needed to start earning GO Points or unlocking its free rewards. The announcement highlighted Vaporeon, Larvitar and Lapras wearing a Blanche-themed accessory with a background inspired by Team Mystic among the pass encounters.
The free track also had two notable milestone effects:
- Rank 10: one additional Candy for evolving Pokémon, plus an increased chance of receiving Candy XL when evolving for Trainers who were level 31 or higher.
- Rank 20: Incense duration was doubled.
Both effects were temporary event bonuses attached to the pass. They were not permanent changes to a Trainer’s account or to Pokémon GO’s normal evolution and Incense rules.

The official announcement emphasized selected rewards rather than publishing a complete rank-by-rank table. It therefore supports the highlighted encounters and milestone bonuses above, but not an invented list of every rank’s item.

GO Pass Deluxe added a paid reward track with upgraded rewards and faster progression. During this event, the published United States prices were US$4.99 for Deluxe and US$6.99 for Deluxe + 6 Ranks. The announcement noted that equivalent local prices could differ. These were one-time event prices in 2026, not current offers.
| Option | Historical US price | Progression or reward distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Free GO Pass | Free | Automatically issued; earn GO Points through Pass Tasks and unlock the free track. |
| GO Pass Deluxe | US$4.99 | Added the Deluxe reward track, including another accessory Lapras encounter, Premium Battle Passes, Glacial Lure Modules and other items. Deluxe also included the free-pass rewards. |
| GO Pass Deluxe + 6 Ranks | US$6.99 | Included the Deluxe track and automatically supplied enough GO Points to reach Rank 7. |
Upgrading after earning free ranks
A Trainer who bought Deluxe after progressing on the free track could still claim the Deluxe rewards for ranks already unlocked. The paid track did not erase earlier progress, and the free-pass rewards remained part of the upgraded package.
Web Store bonuses attached to the upgrades
The event-time Web Store bonuses supplied with either of the named Deluxe upgrades were:

Those bonuses belonged to the 2026 event storefront. They should not be treated as items that can still be purchased or redeemed after the June 3 reward deadline.
Was GO Pass Deluxe worth buying?
There is no present-day purchase decision because Blanche’s Quest for Knowledge has ended. Historically, the choice came down to whether the player valued the extra encounter and item track enough to pay US$4.99, or wanted the same Deluxe package with an automatic jump to Rank 7 for US$6.99.
- The free track suited players who wanted the event’s research, wild and Incense encounters without spending money. Its Rank 10 and Rank 20 bonuses were available through ordinary progression.
- Deluxe suited collectors who specifically wanted the additional accessory Lapras encounter, Glacial Lure Modules, Premium Battle Passes and other upgraded rewards.
- Deluxe + 6 Ranks suited late starters who wanted the paid rewards and a built-in acceleration to Rank 7 rather than earning those first six rank advances normally.
The published information does not assign cash values to every item or quantify encounter odds, so it cannot establish a universal “best value.” The meaningful comparison was the free reward track versus the paid extras and, separately, normal advancement versus the six-rank accelerator.
Shiny availability: what was and was not confirmed
The official Pokémon GO announcement added “If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!” to the event’s Pokémon lists. That language confirmed only that shiny encounters were possible. It did not state that shiny odds were boosted, provide a percentage, or distinguish rates by wild, Incense and Field Research encounters.
Accordingly, no reliable shiny-rate claim can be made for Blanche’s Quest for Knowledge. A player’s chance depended on the game’s applicable encounter mechanics, but the event announcement did not publish a special rate to use for calculation.
What the event required—and what it did not
Requirements for participating
- A Pokémon GO account able to play during the May 26–June 1, 2026 local-time window.
- Access to PokéStops and outdoor play for collecting Field Research and completing exploration objectives.
- Incense for the separate Incense encounter pool.
- Eggs and incubators for the hatch task, a raid for the raid task and another Trainer for the trade task if pursuing those specific research objectives.
Things that were optional
- Buying GO Pass Deluxe or Deluxe + 6 Ranks was not required to encounter the event Pokémon or use the free pass.
- A Pokémon GO Plus + accessory was not required. Official Pokémon GO material describes it as an optional companion that can automatically throw Poké Balls at wild Pokémon and spin PokéStops, allowing play without constantly keeping eyes on the phone. It did not provide Blanche’s Field Research tasks or Incense encounters.
What remains useful in the event record
For a retrospective, the important distinction is between the event’s three encounter channels and the pass’s two reward tracks. The wild lists, Incense list and Field Research pool were not interchangeable, and Leek Duck’s task mappings supplied detail that the official announcement left out. The free pass delivered the core progression and milestone effects; Deluxe added a second track and, in the +6 Ranks version, accelerated progress to Rank 7.
All of those systems were tied to the 2026 schedule. Once June 3, 2026, at 7:59 p.m. local time passed, unclaimed pass rewards were no longer available.
