Use Rock-type Max attacks against Dynamax Articuno: Pokémon GO Hub’s September 2026 guide recommends Dynamax Rhyperior with Smack Down and Max Rockfall, while its counter database also lists Dynamax Gigalith with Smack Down and Max Rockfall. These are third-party recommendations, not an official Niantic ranking. Your Max Battle party must contain three eligible Pokémon, including at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.
What is Dynamax Articuno weak to?
Articuno is an Ice/Flying-type Pokémon, making Rock-type attacks a direct way to exploit its typing. Pokémon GO Hub’s guide describes Articuno as primarily using Ice-type attacks and advises choosing counters that avoid taking super-effective damage from those moves. Because the boss’s actual move set matters to survival, do not choose only by attack type: consider whether your Pokémon can withstand the moves Articuno uses in your battle.
Niantic’s official Max Battle pages explain battle rules and Max Moves, but do not publish an Articuno counter ranking. The recommendations below are Pokémon GO Hub community advice, and their relative value can depend on battle assumptions, your roster, and the boss’s move set.
Best Dynamax Articuno counters
| Counter | Recommended attacks | Why consider it | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamax Rhyperior | Smack Down; Max Rockfall | Pokémon GO Hub’s guide names it as its leading counter recommendation, with Rock attacks suited to Articuno’s typing. | Third-party guide recommendation, not an official Niantic ranking. |
| Dynamax Gigalith | Smack Down; Max Rockfall | Listed among leading options in Pokémon GO Hub’s counter database. | Third-party database recommendation; it does not establish that Gigalith is best in every party or scenario. |
When comparing your available options, weigh three things: access to Rock-type Max damage, the Pokémon’s ability to survive Articuno’s move set, and whether your group can bring a Pokémon with Max Guard or Max Spirit support. The available recommendations do not provide a controlled comparison across every roster, level, or boss move-set scenario.

How to build a Max Battle party
Niantic’s Pokémon GO Help Center says: “Select three Pokémon you want to bring with you into battle, keeping in mind that you must bring at least one Max Pokémon and that only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon can join Max Battles.” A regular Pokémon that is not eligible for Max Battles cannot fill one of these party slots.
Choose attackers for Rock-type damage where possible, but use the other slots to help your party survive if needed. Max Guard reduces incoming damage from the Power Spot Boss, while Max Spirit restores HP to its user and allies. Trainers can train individual Max Moves using Candy and Max Particles. A durable Pokémon with one of these support moves can be useful when your group needs extra defense or healing.
How to beat Dynamax Articuno
- Choose three eligible Pokémon. Include at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, and favor Rock-type attacks for your damage dealers.
- Build the Max meter. Attacks fill it during battle. Swipe toward energy that appears in the arena to fill the meter faster.
- Use Max form deliberately. A full meter triggers three turns in Max form. Use your damage moves during those turns, or use Max Guard or Max Spirit when your group needs help staying in the fight.
- Coordinate roles if you have a group. Pokémon GO Hub suggests one four-player setup with two attackers, one tank or defender, and one healer. This is a community strategy, not a required game rule; adapt it to the Pokémon and Max Moves your group actually has.
Niantic allows up to four Trainers in a Max Battle. Max Particles are deducted only after a successful boss defeat. If your group does not win, you can rejoin while the Power Spot remains open without spending additional Max Particles.
