This is a visual ranking—not an official or measured consensus—based on how clearly each shiny differs from its standard form and how much contrast the color change creates.
How this ranking works
Niantic describes shiny Pokémon as rare variants with different coloration. For this list, the deciding factors are visibility and contrast: a form ranks higher when its shiny palette is easy to distinguish from the regular one. The order is an editorial judgment; taste varies, and the available sources do not establish a consensus ranking or player-preference survey.
All eight Eevee evolutions are included: Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon. Niantic’s August 2021 Eevee Community Day announcement lists the full family.
Every shiny Eevee evolution, ranked
1. Umbreon
Umbreon’s blue rings against its dark body create the strongest contrast in the family. The change is immediately legible without losing the sleek, nocturnal look that makes the standard form distinctive.

3. Sylveon
Sylveon’s blue-and-white palette replaces the standard form’s pink accents with cooler tones. The change remains recognizable while giving its ribbons and bows a noticeably different feel.

4. Vaporeon
Vaporeon’s purple shiny coloration stands apart from its usual blue. The change is clear, though the overall palette remains close enough in mood that it feels less startling than Umbreon’s or Espeon’s.
5. Leafeon
Leafeon shifts from leafy green to a more subdued brown-toned palette. The difference is visible, but the earthy colors make it a gentler transformation than the top-ranked picks.

6. Glaceon
Glaceon’s shiny version makes a restrained change to its pale, cool-toned appearance. It suits the icy design, but the low contrast makes it less striking at a glance.
7. Jolteon
Jolteon’s shiny fur is a deeper green than its standard yellow. The change is noticeable, but it does not create as sharp a visual contrast as the stronger palette swaps above it.

That depends on whether you prefer the Eevee itself or want a particular evolution for your collection. Before spending candy, check the in-game evolve button or preview and the current event conditions. Evolution requirements have changed temporarily during events: Sylveon’s requirement was reduced to seven hearts during the August 2021 Community Day, and special Espeon, Umbreon and Sylveon conditions during the July 2025 Community Day Classic ended on July 12, 2025. Those event rules should not be treated as standard requirements; Niantic’s 2021 announcement and July 2025 announcement document those temporary changes.

When did the shiny Eevee family arrive?
Bulbapedia’s shiny-release history records Eevee and the Kanto and Johto evolutions as released on August 11, 2018; the Sinnoh evolutions on May 18, 2019; and Sylveon on May 25, 2021. These dates come from a secondary source, not a Niantic release-history statement. See Bulbapedia’s list of Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
Finding shiny Pokémon
Niantic says shiny encounters can come from wild spawns, raids, research and other rewards. Availability can vary, so check current official event information. The cited sources do not establish an Eevee-specific shiny encounter rate; no precise odds are given here. See the Pokémon GO Help Center’s shiny Pokémon explanation.
