Pokémon GO’s documented Fusion mechanic combines Kyurem with either Zekrom or Reshiram to create a fused form: Zekrom makes Black Kyurem, while Reshiram makes White Kyurem. Each fusion costs 1,000 matching Fusion Energy and 30 Candy for Kyurem plus 30 for its partner. The fusion lasts until you separate the Pokémon, and separation costs no Energy or Candy.
What Fusion does in Pokémon GO
Fusion combines an eligible Pokémon with a compatible partner to create a fused form. The current official instructions and Kyurem-specific rules documented by Pokémon GO cover these two combinations:
- Kyurem + Zekrom: Black Kyurem.
- Kyurem + Reshiram: White Kyurem.
The partner determines the result; the two partners are not interchangeable. Pokémon.com also describes the two forms in the context of the Unova characters: Pokémon.com’s Kyurem forms overview.

These requirements and move conversions are published in Pokémon GO’s Kyurem Fusion Raid Day announcement. If Kyurem does not know Glaciate, the listed move change does not apply. When a fusion that changed the move is separated, the move returns to Glaciate.

How to fuse Kyurem
- Collect the Candy and the matching Fusion Energy for the form you want.
- Open the summary page for an eligible Pokémon.
- Tap Fuse next to the Pokémon you want to combine it with, then follow the in-game prompts and confirm the resource requirements shown there.
This is the process described by the Pokémon GO Help Center’s “What is Pokémon Fusion?” article. The Help Center says a fused Pokémon becomes more effective in Raid Battles, Gym Battles, Team GO Rocket Battles, and other listed modes. It does not establish that either Kyurem form is universally superior across all battle situations.
Where Fusion Energy comes from
Pokémon GO’s Kyurem Fusion Raid Day announcement says defeating Black Kyurem or White Kyurem in Raid Battles can award Volt or Blaze Fusion Energy, respectively. The announcement describes this Energy as very rare. Use Volt Energy for the Zekrom/Black Kyurem branch and Blaze Energy for the Reshiram/White Kyurem branch.
Raid availability and event schedules change. Check the current in-game raid listings and official event announcements for whether either fused-form raid is available; the cited event announcement should not be treated as a standing schedule.
How long fusion lasts, and what you can transfer
A fused Kyurem stays in its fused form until its Trainer separates it. Separation costs no Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy. However, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem cannot be traded, transferred to the Professor, or transferred to Pokémon HOME, according to Pokémon GO’s official announcement.

The cited official pages do not fully explain how the partner Pokémon is handled in inventory while a fusion is active, so do not assume it remains independently usable during that time.
Freeze Shock and Ice Burn Adventure Effects
When activated as Adventure Effects, the moves offer different catching conveniences. Freeze Shock, associated with Black Kyurem, temporarily stops encountered Pokémon from moving. Ice Burn, associated with White Kyurem, slows the target ring to make Excellent Throws easier. Only one of these effects can be active at a time.

The published activation terms allow extensions in 10-minute increments. The official page says tapping Use can add up to two hours each time, and further activations can extend an effect to a total of 24 hours. These terms are from Pokémon GO’s Kyurem Fusion Raid Day announcement and may change with game updates.

- For Black Kyurem: you need Zekrom, Volt Fusion Energy, and the corresponding Candy; its Adventure Effect is Freeze Shock.
- For White Kyurem: you need Reshiram, Blaze Fusion Energy, and the corresponding Candy; its Adventure Effect is Ice Burn.
- For battles: the Help Center describes fused Pokémon as more effective in several battle modes, but the published material cited here does not rank Black Kyurem against White Kyurem for every matchup.
- For catching: decide whether stopping encountered Pokémon or slowing the target ring better suits your throwing style.
Because separation is free, the fused form is reversible; the choice of partner still determines the form and the Energy branch you must obtain.
