Pokémon GO widgets show progress toward hatching Eggs and earning Candy with your Buddy Pokémon. Tap a widget to open the corresponding screen in Pokémon GO. Adventure Sync is optional, but Pokémon GO says the widgets work best when it is enabled.
Add a Pokémon GO widget on iPhone

Go to the Home Screen and touch and hold an empty area until the apps jiggle.

You can also add the widget in Today View: swipe to Today View and use the same widget-add steps there. Apple supports Lock Screen widgets generally on iOS 16 and later, but Pokémon GO’s documentation confirms Home Screen and Today View placement, not a Pokémon GO Lock Screen widget. Pokémon GO’s widget instructions and Apple’s iPhone widget instructions cover the supported flows.

Launcher labels and layouts can vary by Android device. Google notes that some of its Home Screen steps apply only to Android 14 and later. See Google’s instructions for adding apps, shortcuts and widgets.
Enable Adventure Sync for background distance
Adventure Sync records distance while Pokémon GO is closed. It is available from Trainer Level 5 and requires location permissions set to always allow, plus a connection to Apple Health or Google Fit. To enable it, open Pokémon GO and go to Main Menu → Settings → General → Adventure Sync, then approve the requested health-data permission. You can turn it off again in Settings.
