The most reliable way to level up quickly in Pokémon GO is to stack XP-producing actions—especially friendship milestones and saved research claims—inside a Lucky Egg’s active window, then keep earning XP through catches, PokéStops, and battles. The best route varies with your friends, prepared rewards, play time, and current event bonuses, so check the in-game Today View before using an Egg.
How leveling works now
Pokémon GO’s level cap rose from 50 to 80 on October 15, 2025. The update revised XP requirements and granted at least one level to players who were level 23 or higher when it took effect. The official announcement gives these cumulative XP totals:
| Level | Total XP required |
|---|---|
| 10 | 48,000 XP |
| 20 | 258,000 XP |
| 30 | 1,083,000 XP |
| 40 | 3,953,000 XP |
| 50 | 12,753,000 XP |
| 60 | 34,353,000 XP |
| 70 | 85,853,000 XP |
| 80 | 203,353,000 XP |
These are totals earned to reach each listed level, not the XP needed to advance from the previous level. Reaching levels 71–80 also requires completing the corresponding Level-Up Research tasks. Any excess XP carries forward while you complete those tasks, so a research requirement can hold up the level-up even when you have enough XP. The Pokémon Company’s October 15, 2025 announcement and the Pokémon GO Help Center’s leveling guide describe the update and requirements.
Where to earn XP
Niantic lists catching Pokémon, visiting PokéStops, battling, and other gameplay actions as ways to earn XP. These routine activities are useful because they do not depend on coordinating a reward with another player. You can make each catch more rewarding by aiming for the documented catch bonuses:
#1 Best Overall
- Pikachu hits the books and scribbles his way back to school
- Wireless controller with Bluetooth 5.0 technology
- Compact ergonomic shell with standard sized buttons & controls
- Features motion controls* and mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons
- LEDs for player number, button mapping, and low battery warning
- Registering a Pokémon as a new Pokédex entry
- Catching it on the first throw
- Using a curveball
- Landing an accurate throw
- Receiving the collector bonus
- Making your first catch of the day
Curveballs also make catches easier, according to the official catching guide. The current official pages do not provide a complete XP payout table for every action or throw type, so there is no sound basis here for ranking them by an exact XP-per-action or XP-per-hour figure.
Use Lucky Eggs when large rewards are ready
A Lucky Egg doubles the XP you earn for a limited time. Niantic says it typically lasts 30 minutes, though events may extend the duration; the Help Center also says you can activate up to 200 at once to stack their effects. Check the item’s current in-game details and event notices before planning around its timer. Niantic’s Lucky Egg guide explains how the item works.

Prepare claimable rewards before activating an Egg so more of the boosted window is spent earning XP rather than getting ready. Good candidates include a scheduled friendship milestone and completed Special Research that is ready to claim. Then use the remaining time for catches, PokéStops, or battles. This is a practical way to combine the documented multiplier with available XP sources, not a guaranteed fastest method for every player.
Coordinate friendship rewards
Friendship progress generally advances by one point a day through shared activities, though some features, such as Weekly Challenges, can allow more. Milestone rewards are therefore a coordination opportunity rather than something to expect from an unplanned session. Agree with your friend on when to complete the activity that grants the milestone, and activate the Egg so its window covers the XP award. The official friendship guide covers how friendship progress works.

Watch when Weekly Challenge XP is awarded
Weekly Challenges can award XP and friendship progress, but the XP is granted when the challenge ends. Progress made during the week is not itself the payout moment. If you plan to use a Lucky Egg, time it around the end-of-challenge reward rather than assuming the XP arrives as soon as you contribute.
A repeatable fast-leveling routine
- Check your level and requirements. If you are working through levels 71–80, review the required Level-Up Research as well as your XP total.
- Check the Today View and official event notices. Event bonuses may change XP opportunities or Lucky Egg duration, so confirm what applies before spending an Egg.
- Prepare rewards. Coordinate a friendship milestone, finish Special Research you intend to claim, and note when any Weekly Challenge payout occurs.
- Activate the Lucky Egg just before claims begin. Start it when the first large XP reward is ready, not while you are still arranging the session.
- Fill the active window with normal play. Catch Pokémon, visit PokéStops, and battle while the prepared rewards are being claimed or shortly afterward.
- Repeat based on what you can reliably prepare. If you do not have a coordinated milestone or saved claim, ordinary gameplay still earns XP without waiting for one.
Is Pokémon GO Plus + the fastest way to level?
No XP-rate evidence establishes Pokémon GO Plus + as the fastest leveling method. It is an optional supported accessory for players interested in its automatic actions, not a requirement for progression. Official documentation explains how to use it and whether Lucky Egg bonuses apply to those actions, but does not quantify its XP rate or show that it beats other approaches. See Pokémon Support’s connection and usage instructions and Niantic’s Pokémon GO Plus + support page.
