To reach Level 48 in Pokémon GO today, progress through the current XP curve; there is no Level 48 Level-Up Research checklist. PokéTools’ current-curve calculator lists the Level 48 threshold as 10,253,000 total XP. Niantic’s October 15, 2025 update removed Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41–50 when it raised the Trainer level cap to 80 and rebalanced XP.
What is required to reach Level 48 now?
The current requirement is XP, not a set of Buddy or walking tasks. The PokéTools calculator lists 10,253,000 total XP for Level 48 under the post-2025 curve. Niantic’s official update publishes selected milestone totals rather than an exact Level 48 figure, so treat this number as a third-party calculator value, not an official milestone figure.

The official milestones help show the scale of the revised curve: Niantic lists 3,953,000 total XP at Level 40, 12,753,000 at Level 50, and 203,353,000 at Level 80. Those figures are cumulative totals, not XP needed solely within each level.
Why older Level 48 guides list different tasks
Before the level-system update, Level 48 had Buddy-focused Level-Up Research requirements. A GameWith guide dated August 26, 2025 lists receiving 10 souvenirs from a Buddy, earning 300 Buddy hearts, walking 200 km with a Buddy, and claiming the weekly 25 km walking reward eight times. These are historical requirements, not active Level 48 conditions.

Niantic’s announcement for the October 15, 2025 change says: “Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed. Level-Up Research tasks will only be associated with levels 71 to 80.” The announcement also described a transitional reduction of the weekly walking-reward requirement from eight claims to two before the change. That interim adjustment did not preserve the Level 48 tasks: they were removed when the new curve took effect.
How to earn XP and check your progress
Earn XP through play
Niantic’s Help Center identifies catching Pokémon, visiting PokéStops, and battling as activities that award XP. Extra XP carries forward, so XP beyond a level threshold is not lost.
