Collect Max Particles, bring at least one eligible Dynamax Pokémon, and join the battle at the spot. During the fight, attack to fill the meter, dodge targeted attacks, and move to energy icons; when the meter fills, your Pokémon Dynamaxes for three turns. Defeat the boss for a chance to catch it.
How to find a Max Battle
- Check the live map. Look for Power Spots and tap one to see its boss and battle details. The Pokémon GO guide describes Power Spots as “volatile locations that emit Max Particles,” so their locations can change; check again on the day you plan to play rather than relying on an old map or list. Pokémon GO Max Battles guide.
- Collect Max Particles. Tap a Power Spot and collect the particle bubbles. Your first interaction with a spot each day can award extra particles. You can also collect particles while exploring; Adventure Sync can contribute, and the Nearby menu can show particles available to collect. Niantic Help Center: Max Particles.
- Check the entry cost and boss. Max Particle costs vary with boss strength. According to the Help Center, particles are spent after a successful boss defeat. Check the amount shown for the specific battle before you join. Niantic Help Center: Max Battles.
- Bring a qualifying party. Regular Max Battles require you to have at least one Dynamax Pokémon, and only Dynamax Pokémon can be used in the battle. Standard Max Battles allow up to four Trainers. Niantic Help Center: Max Battles.
Max Particle limits and planning
The Niantic Help Center currently lists a collection limit of 800 Max Particles per day and a storage cap of 1,500 at a time. These are game limits, not fixed event limits: an event announcement may temporarily raise the daily collection amount, so check the active announcement for the event window. For example, GO Wild Area: Global 2024 raised the limit to 1,600; that historical event figure is not the current baseline. Max Particle limits · GO Wild Area: Global 2024 announcement.

If you are deciding between available battles, compare the displayed particle cost and boss strength, whether your party is eligible and prepared, and how many Trainers the lobby needs. Event bosses and bonuses rotate, so use the current in-game listings and official event announcements for live availability.
How to fight in a Max Battle
- Attack to charge the meter. Attacks build the meter that triggers Dynamax.
- Dodge when targeted. Watch for the battle cue and swipe to avoid the incoming attack.
- Collect energy. Swipe toward energy icons when they appear.
- Use Dynamax turns. When the meter is full, your Pokémon Dynamaxes for three turns. Use its available Max Moves during that window.
- Cheer if your party faints. If all your Pokémon are knocked out, you can cheer to help teammates fill their meters faster.
These controls are described in the official Pokémon GO Max Battles guide and the Niantic Help Center.

Dynamax and Max Moves
Dynamax makes an eligible Pokémon appear larger for the battle. Dynamax Pokémon can learn up to three Max Moves: an attack based on the Pokémon’s Fast Attack type, Max Guard to reduce damage, and Max Spirit to restore HP for the user and allies. Max Moves are trained with Max Particles and Candy, so prepare useful moves before joining a demanding fight. Pokémon GO Max Battles guide.
Pokémon caught in Max Battle encounters, and their evolutions, can Dynamax in Max Battles, according to Pokémon GO’s event guidance. Check a Pokémon’s current in-game details to confirm its eligibility rather than assuming that any Pokémon of a species can Dynamax. Pokémon GO Dynamax event guidance.

How Gigantamax battles differ
Gigantamax is a form of Dynamax available to certain Pokémon, with a different appearance. These battles can include up to 40 Trainers, arranged in groups of four or fewer. A Gigantamax Pokémon’s first Max Move is a species-specific G-Max Move; it can also learn Max Guard and Max Spirit. Check the lobby’s requirements and group information for the live encounter.
