Pokémon GO’s Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales ran from July 22 to July 27, 2025, and has ended. The event introduced Honedge, Doublade, and Aegislash, offered 4× catch XP and Stardust, and featured Steel- and Dragon-type Pokémon in the wild, raids, and research.

When was Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales?

The event ran Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Its advertised schedule has passed; any return would require a new official announcement. Pokémon GO’s event announcement is the source for the dates and event details below.

What Pokémon debuted, and how do you evolve Honedge?

Honedge, Doublade, and Aegislash—first discovered in the Kalos region—made their Pokémon GO debuts during the event. The evolution costs announced for the event were:

  • Honedge into Doublade: 25 Honedge Candy.
  • Doublade into Aegislash: 100 Honedge Candy.

What were the event bonuses?

  • Pokémon catches awarded 4× XP.
  • Pokémon catches awarded 4× Stardust.
  • Bagon and Beldum had an increased chance to be encountered as Shiny.
  • Unown U had an increased chance to be encountered as Shiny in raids.

These were event-specific bonuses and rates; the announcement did not give numerical shiny odds. They should not be treated as current bonuses.

Which Pokémon appeared in the wild?

These Pokémon appeared more frequently in the wild:

  • Magnemite
  • Dratini
  • Aron
  • Bagon
  • Beldum
  • Ferroseed
  • Noibat
  • Rookidee

Axew and Goomy were less common wild possibilities. Shiny Rookidee became available in Pokémon GO for the first time during the event. The announcement used an “if you’re lucky” qualification for shiny encounters; none was guaranteed.

Which Pokémon were in raids?

Raid tier Listed Pokémon
One-star Unown U, Gible, Klink, Deino, Honedge
Three-star Skarmory, Bisharp, Dragalge, Turtonator

The official announcement marked some raid Pokémon as potentially Shiny. It did not establish that every listed boss could be Shiny, so check the announcement’s individual qualifications rather than assuming shiny availability across the list.

How could players encounter Honedge in GO Battle League?

During the event, Honedge could appear in both GO Battle League reward tracks starting at Rank 6, with encounters more frequent in the premium track. After the event, it could appear in both tracks starting at Rank 16, again more frequently in the premium track. Reaching the relevant rank did not guarantee an encounter for every player.
