Origin Forme Palkia is weak to Dragon- and Fairy-type attacks in Pokémon GO, and it resists Fire, Water, and Steel. Dragon attackers can hit hard, but they are vulnerable to Palkia’s Dragon moves, so the best team depends on its moveset as well as your available Pokémon. A raid encounter may know Spacial Rend, but it is not guaranteed—and a TM cannot teach it.
Origin Forme Palkia’s weaknesses and resistances
Origin Forme Palkia is a Water/Dragon-type raid boss. Use Dragon- or Fairy-type attacks for super-effective damage; avoid relying on Fire-, Water-, or Steel-type attacks, which it resists. These type matchups are listed in The Pokémon Company International’s Origin Forme Palkia raid guide.
That guide lists Dragon Breath and Dragon Tail as its Fast Attacks, and Aqua Tail, Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, Hydro Pump, and Spacial Rend as its Charged Attacks. The possible moves span Water, Dragon, and Fire types, so a team that survives one moveset may fare differently against another. Check the moves shown during the encounter rather than assuming a single fixed set.
How to choose counters
Start with matching Dragon- or Fairy-type attacks
Prioritize Pokémon that can use Dragon- or Fairy-type Fast and Charged Attacks. Same-type attacks receive a 20% damage bonus, according to the official raid guide. A Pokémon’s type alone is not enough to make it an effective counter: its attack types and move set matter.

Balance damage against survival
Dragon attackers can deal super-effective damage, but Palkia’s Dragon Breath, Dragon Tail, Draco Meteor, and Spacial Rend can threaten them in return. Fairy attackers are also super-effective and avoid that particular Dragon-type vulnerability. Consider the boss’s actual moves and your Pokémon’s level and durability when choosing between higher damage and longer survival.
Use boosts when they fit your team
A Mega-Evolved Pokémon can boost participating Pokémon of the same type while it is battling. Party Power can strengthen a charged attack, making party play a useful coordination option. These boosts can improve a group’s output, but they do not remove the need to account for Palkia’s moveset.
Treat counter rankings as conditional
Raid-counter simulations can help compare candidates, but their rankings depend on the assumptions, game data, movesets, and player conditions used. A single ordered “best counters” lineup is not universal. Compare candidates by super-effective damage, likely survival against the boss’s moves, and any Mega or party boosts available to your group.
Can a raid Palkia have Spacial Rend?
Yes. The official Pokémon GO announcement about Origin Forme Palkia’s Adventure Effect says trainers who defeat Origin Forme Palkia in a raid may encounter one that knows Spacial Rend. “May” does not mean every raid encounter will have the move. The Pokémon Company International’s raid guide says Spacial Rend cannot be learned using any TM, so a TM is not a way to add it to a Palkia that lacks it.

Raid CP and availability
The official raid guide gives an initial encounter range of 2,843–2,958 CP with weather boost. Treat that as the guide’s stated range, not a substitute for the encounter screen or event-specific information.
Raid appearances are event-dependent. A 2025 Pokémon GO Ultra Unlock Raid Day announcement documents a past appearance, not a current rotation. Check current official Pokémon GO announcements or the in-game raid schedule for live availability and dates.
