Pokémon HOME’s New GBA Category Sparks Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Theories

A community-reported GBA category in Pokémon HOME has prompted theories about Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. Nintendo has confirmed HOME support for Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen in October 2026, but not the Hoenn games.

A reported GBA-software category in Pokémon HOME has fans wondering whether Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald could come to Switch or connect to HOME. For now, that is speculation: The Pokémon Company has announced HOME support for the Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen beginning in October 2026, but Nintendo has not announced Hoenn releases or HOME compatibility for them.

What Pokémon HOME’s GBA category report actually shows

The discussion began with a Reddit post and screenshot in which a user reported seeing FireRed and LeafGreen listed under a GBA-software category in Pokémon HOME. That is a community report about an interface observation, not an official Nintendo roadmap or confirmation that other Game Boy Advance games are planned. The Reddit discussion captures the question fans are asking; it does not establish future releases.

The timing gives the observation a concrete context. The Pokémon Company has announced that the Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will connect to Pokémon HOME beginning in October 2026. The announcement describes them as digital Switch releases and directs players to Nintendo eShop. The official announcement concerns those two games specifically.

What is confirmed about FireRed and LeafGreen on Switch

The announced HOME connection applies to the Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen, with compatibility set to begin in October 2026. It is not an announcement about the original GBA cartridges, nor does it name Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald as compatible games.

Nintendo’s published HOME update history lists version 4.0.0 as released April 1, 2026, with compatibility for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Champions, alongside other changes. It does not list Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald compatibility. The update history is a record of published changes, not a promise about what may be added later. Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME update history provides the current published compatibility record.

Why fans are connecting the category to Ruby and Sapphire

FireRed and LeafGreen are GBA-era Pokémon games, as are Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. Fans therefore see a GBA label in HOME as a possible sign that the service could eventually handle more games from that platform. The inference is understandable, but a category label—even as reported by a user—does not show that Nintendo has selected additional games, developed Switch versions, or settled how transfers would work.

Community discussion also speculates about how Hoenn Pokémon might move into HOME and whether future releases could affect Pokédex completion. Those are open questions, not announced features. No release schedule, price, game selection or HOME behavior for Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald has been confirmed. A separate Reddit thread’s title making a timing claim is not authoritative confirmation and should not be treated as a release announcement.

Nintendo’s current public answer about other classic games

Nintendo Support’s official FireRed and LeafGreen FAQ states: “We have nothing to announce regarding any other potential titles.” The FAQ does not identify an individual speaker, and the wording does not rule out future releases; it does mean Nintendo has not publicly announced additional titles in that response. So Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are plausible games for fans to discuss, but the reported HOME category is not evidence that they are on the way. The confirmed news remains limited to the Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen and their planned HOME connection in October 2026.
