What the comparison does—and doesn’t—measure
This is a comparison of reported Japanese retail estimates. Z-A’s total combines its two edition entries; the cited Arceus number is a reported launch-week physical retail estimate. The figures do not establish a like-for-like total including digital sales for both games, so they should not be described as complete sales across all channels.
Nintendo’s company software-unit reporting uses accounting conventions that can include bundled units and downloadable versions of packaged software. Those conventions differ from Famitsu’s weekly retail chart and do not turn the chart into an all-channel sales total. Nintendo explains its reporting approach in its February 3, 2026 million-seller software report.

Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as offering improved graphics and frame rate; the gameplay content is the same.
