The Pokémon Legends: Z-A trailer debuted during the Nintendo Direct on March 27, 2025. It introduced the Z-A Royale, a Lumiose City tournament whose battles Nintendo described as real-time and capable of featuring Mega Evolutions. The game has since launched for Nintendo Switch; its Switch 2 Edition and a Mega Dimension bundle are separate products listed for later release.
What the Pokémon Direct trailer revealed
The Pokémon Company International announced new game details during the March 27, 2025 Nintendo Direct, including the Z-A Royale. Nintendo’s official trailer description characterizes the Royale as a tournament in Lumiose City where Trainers advance through ranks by taking part in unique battles. Nintendo says those battles happen in real time and can feature Mega Evolutions.
That is Nintendo’s description of the gameplay; it should not be read as a claim that every detail was independently confirmed through hands-on play. The key reveal was the Z-A Royale and its role as a ranked tournament in Lumiose City.
Release date and current availability
Nintendo stated that Pokémon Legends: Z-A would release for Nintendo Switch on October 16, 2025. That date has passed, and the official Pokémon Legends: Z-A site now lists the game as available.

How the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension bundle differ
The official Pokémon site also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and a separate bundle containing that edition and Mega Dimension DLC. The bundle is scheduled for October 29, 2026, so it has not yet released as of October 8, 2026.
