The Rescue Team DX personality quiz asks eight questions selected from different categories, then asks whether you want to play as a boy or a girl. Your answers add points to personality types called natures; the leading nature and your chosen gender determine a suggested hero Pokémon. The quiz is optional: you can reject the suggestion and choose a hero yourself. This guide lists the answer effects recorded in a Bulbapedia user-space transcription, which is marked incomplete and in need of fact checks, so treat its wording and point values as a guide rather than an official answer key.
How the Rescue Team DX personality quiz works
The official Pokémon game page describes answering questions at the start to determine the Pokémon you become. In practice, the detailed transcription lists 14 question categories, from which the game draws questions for a run. You get eight questions, followed by the boy-or-girl question; you will not necessarily see every question below in one playthrough. The alien-invasion question has a follow-up, but that follow-up does not count toward the eight-question total.
Answers award points to one or more natures. A response that sounds like a particular personality does not guarantee a specific Pokémon: the result depends on the accumulated points and the selected gender. Some nature-and-gender combinations correspond to two Pokémon, between which the game chooses at random. You can override the suggested Pokémon and select your hero manually.
The answer effects below follow the Bulbapedia user-space transcription. The page says the original Rescue Team questions return with wording or formatting changes and is marked incomplete and needing fact checks and screenshots. Exact wording can vary; the effects are presented as recorded there, not as a definitive official script.

Rank #2
- As you recruit Pokémon, these trusty teammates will need somewhere to stay, so build camps to house, manage, and strengthen your Pokémon friends. Think hard about who is right for the job and how to approach each mysterious dungeon as you prepare a rescue team. You’ll move a single square at a time or use Auto mode to speed up movement until you engage other Pokémon in turn-based battles—but don’t forget about Pokémon strengths and weaknesses!
- This version adds gorgeous watercolor-inspired graphics, and more! Get comfortable in being a Pokémon, there’s a lot of work to do.
Which Pokémon corresponds to each nature and gender?
The following mapping is recorded by the same user-space transcription and is cross-checked against Rebecca Spear’s iMore guide (published September 30, 2022). A nature can correspond to more than one Pokémon for the same gender; in those cases the game chooses between them at random.
| Pokémon | Boy nature | Girl nature |
|---|---|---|
| Bulbasaur | Hardy | Brave |
| Charmander | Docile | Calm |
| Squirtle | Jolly | Relaxed |
| Pikachu | Impish | Hardy |
| Meowth | Quirky | Lonely |
| Psyduck | Relaxed | Lonely |
| Machop | Brave | Brave |
| Cubone | Lonely | Impish |
| Eevee | Hasty | Naive |
| Chikorita | Quirky | Docile |
| Cyndaquil | Timid | Timid |
| Totodile | Naive | Jolly |
| Treecko | Sassy | Quirky |
| Torchic | Hasty | Sassy |
| Mudkip | Calm | Timid |
| Skitty | Naive | Hasty |
What to do if you want a particular hero
If you have a preferred Pokémon, the simplest route is to use the game’s manual selection rather than trying to engineer a particular quiz total. The official Pokémon page provides context for the game’s opening quiz, while the transcription notes that you can decline the suggested result and choose a hero yourself.
