The headline cards in Japan’s Black Bolt and White Flare expansions are Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex, each revealed as a BWR card. “Hit cards” is a useful shorthand for these standout reveals, not an official rarity category. The paired Japanese Scarlet & Violet expansions launched on June 6, 2025.
Which cards are the headline hits?
In its May 4, 2025 announcement, the official Pokémon Card Game site revealed Zekrom ex in Black Bolt and Reshiram ex in White Flare as BWR cards. The black and white treatments distinguish the pair and echo the two set names. The site describes their designs as especially eye-catching and emblematic of the expansions. BWR is the designation used for these featured cards; “hit cards” is not an official rarity label. The announcement establishes that the cards were revealed, but does not provide the probability of pulling either one.
How the two sets handle illustration cards
Black Bolt and White Flare are paired Japanese Scarlet & Violet expansions themed around Unova. The official campaign says the expansions represent all 156 Pokémon discovered in the region, with each Pokémon receiving a special illustration card at AR or SAR rarity. The BWR Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex are the headline cards alongside that illustration-card treatment. Official Black Bolt / White Flare campaign page

Other officially previewed cards
The May 3 reveal previewed additional cards, including Zekrom ex, Kyurem ex, and Serperior ex. Its attack and ability summaries describe card effects, not independent assessments of competitive strength. Pokémon Card Game’s May 3 reveal
- Zekrom ex: Voltage Burst deals 130 damage, plus 50 more for each Prize card the opponent has taken.
- Kyurem ex: Blizzard Burst deals 130 damage and can also spread damage to the opponent’s Bench.
- Serperior ex: Its Royal Cheer ability increases damage to the opponent’s Active Pokémon by 20.
The May 4 announcement also highlighted Eelektross (シビルドン), Cheren (チェレン), and Bianca (トウコ). For Eelektross, the official Japanese announcement describes one attack that deals 60 damage and may Paralyze the opponent’s Active Pokémon, and another that can reach 400 damage. Those names and effects are from the Japanese announcement; check a localized card database before treating English names as official translations.
