Nintendo says it improves image quality and frame rate on the new console, but publishes no specific resolution or frame-rate target. That is encouraging context for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, whose Switch 2 Edition is also advertised with higher frame rate and resolution—but it does not guarantee matching performance.
What changed in Scarlet and Violet on Switch 2?
Nintendo released version 4.0.0 of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on June 2, 2025. In its version history, Nintendo lists two Switch 2 benefits:

- Visuals: “Optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality.”
- Frame rate: “Improved for smoother movement on Nintendo Switch 2.”
These are Nintendo’s descriptions of the update, not measured performance results. The support note gives no exact game resolution, frame-rate ceiling, or before-and-after benchmark, so there is no official basis in that note for a precise FPS claim or a quantified description such as “massive.”
How to understand the visual and frame-rate claims
Image quality
Nintendo says the games’ visuals are optimized for Switch 2’s display and high-resolution TVs. This describes an improvement to image quality, but the note does not state the games’ internal rendering resolution or specify a resolution target on either display type.

Smoother movement
The update note says frame rate is improved on Switch 2. It does not say what frame rate the games reach, whether that rate is consistent, or how performance compares across particular areas or gameplay conditions. Treat “improved” as a qualitative official claim rather than a guarantee of a specific result.
Console output is not the same as a game benchmark
Nintendo’s 2025 Switch 2 announcement lists a 7.9-inch 1920×1080 handheld display and TV output up to 3840×2160 at 60 fps; it also notes support for 120 fps at selected lower output resolutions. Those are console display and output specifications, not the resolution or frame rate at which Scarlet or Violet renders. Nintendo also says compatible physical and digital Switch games can be played on Switch 2. See the Switch 2 hardware announcement for the system details.

What Scarlet and Violet’s update suggests about Legends: Z-A
There is a concrete reason for cautious optimism: Pokémon Legends: Z-A has a separate Switch 2 Edition. The Pokémon Company describes it as offering improved graphics and frame rates, and Nintendo’s product listing describes higher frame rate and resolution. The announcements establish that the Switch 2 Edition is intended to improve those aspects; they do not establish a numeric target or prove it will perform like the updated Scarlet and Violet.
The two releases also use different upgrade approaches. Scarlet and Violet received version 4.0.0 updates to their existing games. Legends: Z-A is sold as a Switch 2 Edition, and owners of its Switch version can buy an upgrade pack for a physical or digital copy. The Pokémon Company says the announced Switch 2 Edition does not include additional content that uses Switch 2 specifications; it is a platform-enhanced edition, not an expansion announcement. Details are in The Pokémon Company’s release announcement and Nintendo’s Switch 2 Edition listing.
