If Pokémon Showdown will not load or says it could not connect to the server, that does not necessarily mean the game is down for everyone. The official homepage and battle-server page were accessible in the latest reviewed snapshot, but that cannot rule out intermittent or region-specific problems. Check the game through the official site, then use its support channels if the problem persists.
Is Pokémon Showdown down right now?
The official Pokémon Showdown homepage was reachable in the reviewed snapshot and displayed activity on the official server. That is a point-in-time check, not a guarantee that every player can connect to every service. The reviewed official sources did not identify a live status dashboard or a current incident explaining a widespread outage.
To check for yourself, open the official homepage and select Play online. If the homepage loads but the game will not connect, the two outcomes do not establish the same thing: reaching the site does not prove the battle or login service is working for your connection.
What to do if Showdown won’t load or connect
- Try the official Play online route. Start at the Pokémon Showdown homepage and use its Play online link. Note the exact error you see, such as “Couldn’t connect to server.”
- If the interruption is momentary, retry after a short pause. The Pokémon Showdown FAQ explains that servers restart periodically to implement updates and that these restarts take under a second. That can fit a brief interruption, but it does not explain or resolve a continuing failure.
- If it keeps happening, ask for help through official support. The contact page directs players to the Pokémon Showdown Help chatroom, where staff can help with most problems and can be privately messaged. You can also consult the Smogon Pokémon Showdown Technical Support thread.
- Back up your teams before clearing cookies or browser data. The FAQ says teams are saved in browser cookies and recommends periodically exporting team text as a backup. Clearing cookies may remove teams stored in that browser.
Why might Pokémon Showdown not be working for you?
The symptom alone does not identify the cause. Historical support reports include provider-specific access trouble and a login-server incident, but neither establishes what is happening to another player now. A current diagnosis would need to match your error and circumstances—such as your network, location, device and browser—to a current official notice or support finding.

If you contact support, include the exact error and when it started, along with your browser, device, location and network provider. Those details help distinguish a general service interruption from a problem affecting a particular connection or login route.

The Pokémon Showdown FAQ answers “Why did the server restart?” this way: “Servers restart to implement updates. They are quick (taking under a second) and occur periodically.” That is the official explanation for routine restarts. It is not evidence that a prolonged inability to connect is simply a routine restart.
