In the base game, fish for Feebas in the lake on Route 2 beside Professor Magnolia’s house. To evolve it into Milotic, give Feebas a Prism Scale to hold and trade it to another player. The trade triggers the evolution.
Where to find Feebas in Pokémon Sword and Shield
Go to the lake beside Professor Magnolia’s house on Route 2 and fish there. Feebas is a rare fishing encounter, not an overworld Pokémon you can simply approach. PowerPyx’s 2019 guide reports a 1% encounter chance at levels 37–40; that is a guide-reported rate, not a guarantee about the sequence of encounters in any particular game. PowerPyx’s Feebas location guide gives the location and encounter details.
Serebii lists Route 2 as a Feebas location in both Sword and Shield. It also lists raid and Crown Tundra locations, which may be options if you have the relevant expansion or access to raids. Those additional listings do not establish a comparable encounter rate or a more convenient route, so Route 2 is the straightforward base-game method. Serebii’s Feebas entry lists the game locations.
How to get the Prism Scale
- Make sure you have the Water Bike, which is needed to reach the lake pickup.
- From the front of Professor Magnolia’s house on Route 2, enter the lake.
- Search the northern part of the lake for the glimmering pickup and collect the Prism Scale. PowerPyx’s Prism Scale location guide describes the pickup.
How to evolve Feebas into Milotic
- Open your Bag and give the Prism Scale to Feebas to hold.
- Trade Feebas with another player. A local or internet trade can trigger the evolution.
- If you want to keep that Feebas, arrange a tradeback with someone you trust before trading it. The evolution happens during the trade, but getting the Pokémon back requires the other player to trade it back.
Feebas must be holding the Prism Scale when it is traded; merely owning the item or trading Feebas without it will not meet the stated evolution method. The Prism Scale is an in-game item pickup, not a separate product you need to buy.
