In Pokémon TCG Pocket, Shinedust comes mainly from obtaining cards you already have registered in your Card Dex, with some event missions and solo drop battles offering it as limited-time rewards. You can spend it on eligible trades or card flair. Trade costs vary by card rarity, so check the amount shown in the app before confirming.
How to get Shinedust
Obtain a card already in your Card Dex
When you obtain a card that is already registered in your Card Dex, the game automatically grants Shinedust. In a trade-feature update dated July 25, 2025, The Pokémon Company International said this reward would be increased to double its then-current amount in the July 29 update. The announcement does not specify a universal amount per duplicate card, so treat the doubling as a dated update—not a current rate you can use to calculate a guaranteed reward. Read the July 2025 trade update.
Check current event missions and battles
Some events offer Shinedust through missions or solo battles, but these rewards depend on the event. For example, the Everyday Wonders announcement on June 29, 2026, listed Shinedust among rewards for completing missions. A Blastoise Drop Event in late 2024 also offered Shinedust as a possible reward for repeat solo battle wins; that event ended January 14, 2025. These examples do not mean every event awards Shinedust. Check the current event details and in-game mission list. Everyday Wonders announcement · Blastoise Drop Event announcement.
What Shinedust is used for
Trading eligible cards
Shinedust is required for trades involving three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity cards, according to the July 2025 trade update. Trading is with friends, and Pokémon Support says the feature unlocks 14 days after you start the game. See the Trading FAQ.

How to check a trade’s Shinedust cost
The amount depends on the rarity of the card being traded. To see the current requirement, open Social Hub > Trade > ? > About trade rules. The trade screen also displays the Shinedust amount before you complete a trade. Check there rather than relying on a fixed cost list, since the published support information directs players to the current in-game values. Pokémon Support Trading FAQ.

Should you save Shinedust for trading or spend it on flair?
There is no universal best allocation: the right choice depends on whether a particular eligible trade matters more to your collection than the cosmetic effect you want. Before spending, check the trade’s displayed cost and consider whether you expect to use Shinedust for a specific trade; choose flair when its visual value to you is worth using the resource. The official sources do not establish a general optimal spending rule.
