Wolfe Glick won the 2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships VGC Masters final 2–1 over Dyl Yeomans after dropping game one. Now, VGC fans are replaying game three’s closing turns—not because there is an agreed, obvious answer, but because a tight endgame left several plausible choices to examine.
What happened in the 2025 EUIC final?
The tournament took place in London from February 21–23, 2025. Serebii’s event record lists 1,401 VGC Masters participants, while Glick rounded the field to 1,400 in his post-win speech. Video Games Chronicle reported his words: “1400 players trained their Pokémon, traveled to London, practiced with a friend, and worked on their team. 1400 people showed up to this tournament hoping and dreaming of winning the entire thing… But it wasn’t enough!” Video Games Chronicle’s report covers the match and speech; Serebii’s event record provides the participant count and dates.
Glick’s finals choice is part of what makes the win interesting. Reports say he did not bring Scream Tail or Gothitelle, the pair associated with his Perish Trap mode. That strategy combines Perish Song with Gothitelle’s Shadow Tag. Instead, his final lineup included Koraidon, Incineroar, Amoonguss, and Flutter Mane across the set. Incineroar was the last Pokémon standing in game three. Dot Esports’ match report describes the team and the Perish Trap context.
Why are players focused on the last turns?
Community discussion centers on a late-game board in which Glick had Incineroar and Flutter Mane against Yeomans’ Miraidon and Farigiraf, with two turns of Trick Room remaining. That combination makes move order and survival consequential: posters debate which target to choose, whether Protect was likely, and whether preserving one Pokémon or trading it away was the better line.

Those threads are players reconstructing decisions, not official rulings about what either competitor should have done. The Reddit discussions show the kinds of questions fans are asking: one thread examines the game-three endgame, while another discusses the final turns and alternative outcomes. Neither establishes that a particular alternate move would certainly have changed the winner.
What makes an alternate line plausible—or uncertain?
To evaluate a proposed play, start with the state the players had to read rather than the outcome fans now know. The debate turns on several linked questions:

- The Pokémon TCG: Pokémon Day 2026 Collection includes 1 foil promo card featuring Pikachu with a Pokémon Day stamp.
- This also comes with 1 Pokémon coin.
- You will also receive 3 Pokémon TCG booster packs.
- Booster Packs May Vary from those pictured.
- Targeting: Which opposing Pokémon does each move threaten, and what happens if the player guesses the target incorrectly?
- Protect or switch: Does a line rely on the opponent attacking, protecting, or changing Pokémon? A prediction that works against one response may fail against another.
- Trick Room timing: With two turns remaining in the discussed position, the remaining order of attacks matters to how long each Pokémon can act safely.
- Who is preserved: Some commenters argue that keeping Incineroar alive, or instead accepting its loss to preserve Flutter Mane, changes the endgame. One comment frames it conditionally: “If incineroar died that turn Dyl would have won.” That is a commenter’s interpretation, not a verified result for every possible line.
- Damage uncertainty: Damage estimates can depend on rolls, critical hits, and stat changes. A calculation based on one assumed outcome cannot by itself prove that a line was guaranteed.
These are useful axes for understanding why the final is being re-examined. They do not turn a speculative branch into a settled counterfactual. Without treating a community calculation as definitive, the sound conclusion is that the ending invited close analysis because a narrow set of choices could affect which Pokémon remained on the field.

This is the 2025 championship, not the 2026 EUIC. The official 2026 Europe International Championships page records a different event and standings. Keeping the year attached to Glick’s win avoids conflating two editions.
