Which consoles will Pokémon Winds and Waves be on?
Nintendo’s official store listing calls the games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. The official Pokémon announcement gives the same platform information. Neither page lists an original Nintendo Switch edition.

When do the games come out?
The official pages give 2027 as the release year, and Nintendo describes a simultaneous worldwide release. They do not provide a specific day or month. The Nintendo Japan announcement and The Pokémon Company press release, both dated February 27, 2026, corroborate the announcement. Release timing can change; no more precise date is established by these sources.
Does Switch 2 backward compatibility mean Switch 1 can run them?
No. Nintendo Support explains that Switch 2 can play compatible games made for the original Switch. That is backward compatibility: it describes older Switch games running on newer hardware, not Switch 2-exclusive games running on original Switch. The official platform listings name Winds and Waves as Switch 2 exclusives, so compatibility with Switch 1 is not established.

What has been announced about the games?
The official descriptions place the games in an open world of windswept islands and a vast ocean. They say players will team up with Pokémon to overcome obstacles and forces of nature. These are publisher descriptions; the games have not been released, so they are not hands-on findings.
