The Pokémon Company has announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, new open-world RPGs set among windswept islands and a broad ocean—but it has not identified that region as Johto.
What has actually been announced?
The Pokémon Company International announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves on February 27, 2026, describing them as new entries in the Pokémon RPG series. Its promotional description asks players to explore “through an open world of windswept islands and an ocean of glittering waves?” The question-mark wording is part of the promotional copy; it is not a statement naming Johto. The Pokémon Company International’s Pokémon Day 2026 wrap-up and the official announcement trailer page provide the announced details.

Is the new game set in Johto?
That has not been confirmed. The official descriptions reviewed refer to windswept islands, a vast ocean, and Pokémon adapted to the region’s environment, but do not call the location Johto. The island-and-ocean setting alone is not evidence that the games revisit the region.
Nintendo’s February 27, 2026 announcement also describes a new field of islands and ocean without identifying it as Johto. Nintendo’s announcement therefore does not establish a Johto setting either. Whether a separate Johto game will be announced later remains unknown.
