In Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, the Genesis Configuration is more than a weapon: official descriptions say Aidan can use it to attack enemies and manipulate the environment to solve puzzles. That gives it a limited Zelda-like overlap—one object serving both combat and exploration—but the developers have not described the game as Zelda-inspired.
What the Genesis Configuration does
The box has two supported gameplay roles: it can channel offensive power in combat, and it can help Aidan interact with the Labyrinth’s environment. Saber’s FAQ describes special abilities using the box alongside melee and ranged weapons; PlayStation’s feature provides specific examples of its puzzle and combat uses.
Combat: a supernatural ability source
PlayStation describes Aidan using the box’s power to set enemies on fire. It is therefore not simply a key or a passive story object; it contributes a supernatural attack option alongside the game’s conventional arsenal. Official descriptions do not establish a full list of its abilities or explain their controls, so the fire example should not be taken as a complete move set.
Puzzles: changing the environment
The box also affects the spaces Aidan must navigate. In one example, it rotates a giant wheel to realign narrow walkways. In another, it changes shape to unlock gates after Aidan retrieves missing statue pieces. PlayStation’s feature also points to clues and the Labyrinth’s unusual spatial logic as part of puzzle-solving.

These examples make the Zelda comparison understandable at the level of function: the same special object can help with an enemy and with progression through an environment. They do not establish that the game copies a particular Zelda mechanic or that its developers cite Zelda as an influence.
How that fits the survival-horror systems
The Genesis Configuration does not replace the rest of the game’s survival-horror toolkit. PlayStation’s August 2026 feature describes firearms and other weapons, lock and safe puzzles, crafting resources, ammunition, upgrades, and inventory management. The box’s supernatural uses sit alongside those systems rather than making the game a puzzle adventure built around a single tool.

Saber announced the game as a single-player, story-driven survival-horror action game. Its story follows Aidan as he tries to help Sunny escape the Labyrinth, with the Genesis Configuration at the center of both the premise and gameplay. Saber’s announcement also says Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead.

Xbox Wire’s July 22, 2025 interview with executive producer Nenad Tomic says the game is inspired by the first two Hellraiser films, but its plot is not directly connected to them. The Genesis Configuration is central to the new story as well as to play: Tomic describes it as both a catalyst for the story and a key gameplay element.

Saber’s official FAQ lists an October 8, 2026 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. That date was still one day in the future on October 7, 2026, so it is best described as scheduled unless launch status is confirmed. The FAQ estimates around 8–12 hours of gameplay; PlayStation likewise gives an 8–12-hour campaign estimate and says the length depends on difficulty and player skill. These are estimates, not measured completion times.
