Nintendo’s March 2, 2026 announcement says: “Stay tuned for more information about Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, releasing exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.” The wording confirms the platform and year while leaving the exact launch date open.
What platforms are Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves on?
Both games are confirmed as Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives. Nintendo’s US store listing identifies Pokémon Winds as a digital edition for Nintendo Switch 2, and the announcement applies the same hardware requirement to Pokémon Waves.
Original Nintendo Switch compatibility
Support for the original Nintendo Switch has not been announced. Owners of the 2017 Switch should not assume that a Switch 2 game will run on their console, either physically or digitally. Until Nintendo publishes a compatibility statement, treat Switch 2 as a requirement rather than an optional upgrade.
