A useful post-event survey helps you decide what to keep, change, or remove next time. Start with a short core questionnaire, then add only questions tied to decisions you can act on. For a gaming event, that might mean asking about session content, tournament logistics, accessibility, or opportunities to connect—not asking attendees to rate every detail by default.

Start with these post-event survey questions

This concise set covers overall experience, expectations, value, improvement, and future intent. It is a practical synthesis of university and vendor question banks, not a validated universal survey. Use only questions whose answers could change a future decision, and leave out anything already captured in registration or attendance records.

  1. Overall satisfaction: Overall, how satisfied were you with the event? Suggested format: a balanced rating scale, such as very dissatisfied to very satisfied.
  2. Expectations: Did the event meet your expectations or the goal you had for attending? Suggested format: Yes / Partly / No, with an optional comment.
  3. Most valuable part: Which part of the event was most valuable to you? Suggested format: a list of major sessions or activities, plus “Other” and an optional comment.
  4. Improvement: What is one thing we could improve for next time? Suggested format: optional open response.
  5. Return intent: How likely are you to attend a future event like this? Suggested format: a consistent likelihood scale.
  6. Recommendation: How likely are you to recommend this event to a friend or colleague? Suggested format: a likelihood scale. Keep this separate from return intent: someone may recommend an event without planning to attend again, or vice versa.

The University at Buffalo School of Management’s question bank and Cvent’s examples cover several of these themes, including satisfaction, expectations, improvement, future attendance, and recommendation.

Adapt the questions to a gaming event

Choose a module only if the answer could guide an organizer decision. For a video-game convention, tournament, community event, launch showcase, or streamed event, replace generic labels with the actual sessions, activities, and logistics attendees experienced.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Games, sessions, and speakers

  • Was the event content relevant and useful to you?
  • Which game, session, tournament match, or speaker was most valuable to you?
  • What game or topic would you like the event to cover next time?

Use a selectable list when you need to compare particular sessions, and include “Other” if attendees may have valued something you did not list. These answers can inform future programming or session selection.

Venue and logistics

  • How satisfied were you with the venue?
  • How satisfied were you with the event date and time?
  • How satisfied were you with the arrival or check-in process?
  • How satisfied were you with the event length?
  • If food was provided, how satisfied were you with it?

Ask about only the logistics relevant to your event and your ability to change. If you need to diagnose a low rating, offer an optional comment rather than combining several topics into one question.

Networking and activities

  • Which networking opportunity or activity was most useful to you?
  • What would make it easier to connect with other attendees?

These prompts can help organizers decide whether to keep, adjust, or add activities. Cvent’s and SurveyMonkey’s question guidance includes open responses as a way for attendees to explain what mattered or identify issues the organizer did not anticipate.

Accessibility and participation

  • Were you able to access and participate in the event?
  • Did anything make it difficult for you to take part?

Use responses to identify barriers to address at future events. If you need accommodation requests to plan the event itself, ask for them during planning or registration rather than relying on a post-event survey to meet an immediate need.

Choose question formats and keep the survey focused

Use a mix of structured questions and a small number of open prompts. Rating or multiple-choice answers are quicker to complete and easier to compare; open responses let attendees explain a rating or raise an issue you did not anticipate. A two-choice question can work when the decision genuinely has two clear answers. Cvent discusses all three formats, while SurveyMonkey recommends combining ratings or multiple choice with a few open-ended questions.

  • Ask one thing at a time. Keep satisfaction with the venue separate from satisfaction with the event length.
  • Use simple, specific wording. Name the session, activity, or service you mean rather than relying on an unclear “it.”
  • Keep response options balanced. Where a rating scale is used, include both positive and negative choices and a neutral or midpoint option when appropriate.
  • Be consistent when comparing. Reuse the same wording and scale for a measure you want to compare across events.
  • Make open-text answers optional when your form allows it. Attendees can still share detail without being forced to write.
  • Remove questions that will not inform an action. The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s event-evaluation guidance cautions against collecting feedback just to collect feedback; it recommends collecting information that will be useful and actionable.

SurveyMonkey suggests 10 questions or fewer and about three minutes to complete as practical guidance. Those figures are not a universal rule or a guarantee of a particular response rate. Keep the questionnaire only as long as its decision-making purpose requires.

Send the survey while the event is still fresh

  1. Prepare the survey before the event ends. Make sure the questions refer to the event people actually attended and that any session or activity list is accurate.
  2. Offer an immediate route to respond. A short link or QR code at the end of a session can capture reactions while attendees are present. An event app can also collect session-specific feedback.
  3. Follow up by email for broader reach. Send the survey soon after the event. SurveyMonkey recommends within one to two business days; Cvent recommends sending it as soon as possible. These are practical recommendations, not proof of a universally optimal send time.
  4. Allow time before a reminder. SurveyMonkey advises leaving a few days before reminders and limiting the total number of messages. Avoid repeated requests that feel burdensome.
  5. Close the loop. Thank respondents and, where useful, link to relevant follow-up such as slides, recordings, or information about the next event. SurveyMonkey recommends using the thank-you page for appreciation and relevant links.

Review responses without overstating what they show

  • Compare like with like. Compare ratings across events or attendee groups only when the question wording, audience, and scale are sufficiently consistent.
  • Look for themes in comments. Group recurring issues and retain examples that clarify what could be changed. A few comments can identify a problem, but they should not be treated as representative of every attendee.
  • Separate different audiences. Attendees, sponsors, speakers, and staff have different knowledge and needs. Ask each group questions it can answer; Cvent publishes separate question sets for attendees, sponsors, and speakers.
  • Do not assume one response-rate target fits every event. SurveyMonkey says rates vary by audience and event type and does not endorse a single correct target in the guidance reviewed.

If your gaming event also uses an always-on YouTube channel

Event feedback and keeping a YouTube channel live are separate jobs. If you want uploaded event recordings to loop on YouTube between events, StreamNeo is a cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.

StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only. The same plan supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free and no card required. To try it, start a StreamNeo free day.
