Potionomics is a well-reviewed PC game built around an unusual mix of potion brewing, shop management, card-based haggling and relationships. Its appeal is the way those systems fit together; its main caveat is that the same layered mechanics and competitive deadlines can feel demanding. Metacritic’s PC critic-review snapshot on October 8, 2026, was 80/100 from 11 reviews, labeled “Generally Favorable.”
What kind of game is Potionomics?
In Potionomics, you inherit an uncle’s potion shop along with its debt. You brew potions, stock and customize the store, and send heroes to gather ingredients. Selling them is not just a matter of setting a price: you use a deck of cards to haggle, while building relationships with other vendors can unlock new strategies.
The result combines shopkeeping and business simulation with deck-building, resource management and relationship-building. Steam describes the game as narrative-driven. It was developed by Voracious Games and published by XSEED Games/Marvelous USA, Inc.; the original PC release date was October 17, 2022. Steam’s Potionomics listing
What do critics like about it?
Review coverage is broadly positive about the distinctive combination of systems, the characters and the presentation. PC Gamer summed up the shopkeeping depth as “Underneath the cosy exterior lies a complex, rewarding shopkeeping sim.” PC Invasion praised the genre blend and its deck-building. Metacritic’s PC critic-review page showed an 80/100 Metascore from 11 critic reviews, categorized as “Generally Favorable,” in its October 8, 2026 snapshot. Scores and review counts can change as coverage is added or listings are updated.
What are the main drawbacks?
- Many systems to learn: Brewing, inventory and shop decisions, card-based bargaining, relationships and competition interact. Some critics found that layering overwhelming, and review excerpts noted a desire for clearer interface guidance.
- Competition can add pressure: The shopkeeping loop takes place alongside competitive demands, which may make the experience feel less relaxed than its cozy presentation suggests.
- Pacing is not consistent for everyone: Some critics found the middle or later game less compelling than its earlier stretch.
These are critical observations, not universal player experiences. They matter most if you want a low-pressure shop simulator or prefer games that explain their systems gradually.

- Wheel and Deal - Negotiations can be tense when every coin counts, but you'll manage Sylvia’s stress with ease by playing your cards right. Develop friendships with adventurers and other shopkeepers on Rafta to learn even more advanced negotiation tactics.
- Recipe for Success - Choose the best ingredients to make even basic potions extraordinary, perfecting the taste and aroma to please your pickiest customers. But beware—if you aren’t careful, you'll get some pretty gross results!
- Fantastic Friends and Foes - Rafta, home to some of the world's most potent magic, is packed with big RPG personalities, each seeking a leg up in their adventures. Befriend and recruit them to help you level up your own potion game, but don't expect everyone to be friendly…
- Your Shop, Your Rules - Make your shop really pop with customizable decor. Style points aren't the only perk; decorating your shop just right can improve your prices, make better quality potions, and more!
How do the PC and Masterwork Edition reviews fit together?
The 80/100 figure is specifically for the PC critic-review page, not a score for every platform or edition. Metacritic also has critic-review coverage for Potionomics: Masterwork Edition on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but that does not establish platform parity in performance, controls or interface.
The official Potionomics website said Masterwork Edition’s new content and features would also be made available to the PC version alongside the edition’s release. Check the current store listing for your region and platform to confirm which version and content it offers; the available review information does not establish current regional availability or whether a particular listing is physical or digital.

- Clever selling tactics - Negotiating can be stressful when every coin counts, but you'll manage Sylvia's stress with ease if you play your cards correctly. Build friendships with adventurers and other shopkeepers on Rafta to learn even more advanced negotiation tactics.
- A recipe for success - Choose the best ingredients to make even simple potions extraordinary, and perfect the taste and aroma to satisfy your pickiest customers. But be careful - if you are not careful, you will get pretty disgusting results!
- Fantastic Friends and Enemies - Rafta, home to some of the world's most powerful magics, is full of great RPG personalities, all looking for a head start in their adventures. Make friends with them and recruit them to help you improve your own magic potion art, but don't expect everyone to be friendly to you..
- Your store, your rules - Give your store that certain something with the customisable decoration. And a better look isn't the only benefit: if you decorate your store properly, you can improve your prices, make better potions, and more!
Who is Potionomics for?
It is a strong candidate if you enjoy management games with interconnected systems, card-driven negotiation and character relationships, and you like learning how one decision affects another. If you primarily want an uncomplicated, cozy shopkeeping game—or find timed competition stressful—the pressure and complexity may be a poor fit.
When choosing a platform, consider whether its controls and interface suit you, check current performance information for that platform, and verify that the listing includes the Masterwork Edition content you want. The available review coverage is not detailed enough to rank platforms or editions on performance.
