PRAGMATA: 12 practical tips for surviving the robo-pocalypse

By VGSources Team 8 min read

PRAGMATA is built around one combat rule: Diana’s hacking and Hugh’s shooting are meant to be used together. Diana exposes a machine’s weak points or disrupts its systems; Hugh then exploits the opening with a firearm. Treating either character as optional makes encounters harder and ignores the design Capcom describes for this single-player science-fiction action-adventure.

This guide turns the game’s combat, upgrade and exploration systems into twelve practical habits. They apply to the lunar research station’s battles and traversal, without assuming a single “best” build. Weapon ammunition, Hacking Node effects, enemy grouping and your preferred balance of hacking versus shooting should determine your choices.

Understand PRAGMATA’s two-character combat loop

PRAGMATA lets you direct Hugh and Diana as a team rather than treating them as separate combat modes. Diana’s hacks expose vulnerabilities, while Hugh’s firearms deliver the damage those vulnerabilities allow. Capcom director Yonghee Cho explained the design in the March 19, 2026 PlayStation Blog interview: “If players could finish a battle using only one of those mechanics, it would undermine the concept we were aiming for.”

1. Hack first, then shoot the opening

Begin an encounter by looking for the hacking opportunity instead of immediately emptying Hugh’s weapon. A successful hack can reveal a target’s vulnerable area; switch your attention to Hugh and place firearm damage into that exposed weakness. The useful rhythm is therefore identify, hack, reposition, exploit, not “shoot until something happens.”

#1 Best Overall
PRAGMATA - Nintendo Switch 2
  • Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
  • Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
  • Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
  • Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!
  • PRE-ORDER BONUS: Get the samurai-inspired Neo Bushido and ninja-themed Neo Kunoichi outfits.

When several enemies are present, decide which machine you want to weaken first and keep Hugh’s aim ready for the moment Diana finishes. This keeps both characters contributing and prevents ammunition being spent on targets whose defenses are still intact.

2. Hack incoming threats as well as enemies

Diana is not limited to hacking a robot’s armor. The March 17, 2026 PlayStation Blog hands-on report describes enemies that fire homing missiles which she can hack and redirect toward the machine that launched them. When a projectile is tracking you, look for the hacking interaction instead of treating it only as something to dodge.

Redirecting a missile can damage the attacker while preserving Hugh’s ammunition for another target. It also changes the priority of an encounter: a launcher with a dangerous projectile may be worth hacking before a closer enemy with less threatening attacks.

Choose weapons and Hacking Nodes by purpose

The hands-on report identifies four weapon types and presents each as a role rather than a universal upgrade path. Apart from the Primary Unit, the report says weapons break when their ammunition runs out. Track what each weapon is supposed to accomplish before committing scarce shots.

3. Match each weapon to its battlefield job

Weapon Role described in the hands-on report When that role helps
Primary Unit The report’s baseline weapon; unlike the other listed weapons, it is not described as breaking when ammunition runs out. Use it when you need a dependable option and want to preserve limited specialist ammunition.
Tactical Unit Useful for pinning enemies. Choose it when stopping movement creates time to hack or line up Hugh’s next shot.
Attack Unit Designed for close-range damage. Bring it into openings created by a hack when you can safely approach the target.
Defense Unit Used to draw enemy attention. Deploy it to redirect pressure and create room for Diana’s hacking work or a safer reposition.

These descriptions are functional categories, not an exhaustive weapon guide. The right choice changes with ammunition, distance and enemy composition. A weapon that is ideal for pinning one target may be wasteful against a spread-out group, while a close-range option is risky if no hack has reduced the danger.

4. Learn what each Hacking Node changes

Hacking Nodes give Diana more than a single generic “hack” command. The hands-on report identifies Decode, which lowers an enemy’s defense, and Multi-Hack, which spreads an effect to nearby targets. Read a node’s effect before spending it so the hack supports Hugh’s next action.

Decode is naturally suited to a priority target that Hugh can immediately attack. Multi-Hack becomes more valuable when enemies are close enough for one use to affect several machines. The node effect should follow the situation; do not select one automatically because it worked in the previous room.

5. Pair Decode and Multi-Hack against groups

Producer Naoto Oyama described combining Decode with Multi-Hack to lower the defenses of multiple enemies in a single hacking sequence, preparing them for shotgun attacks. This is a practical pattern for clustered groups: spread the defensive reduction first, then let Hugh capitalize with a high-impact close-range attack.

The combination is not a mandatory build. It is strongest when targets are grouped and Hugh has the ammunition and position to follow through. If enemies are separated, spending a multi-target effect may produce less value than using Decode on the machine that threatens you most.

6. Spend nodes deliberately instead of hoarding them

Capcom encourages experimentation but warns that careless use can leave you short at a crucial moment. Hacking Nodes can be replenished by returning to the Shelter, and additional nodes are scattered through the station’s areas. That makes them renewable, not limitless during a single push through a dangerous section.

Pragmata (PlayStation 5)
  • Unique Hack and Shoot Game – The fight starts with disarmament of the enemy armor – otherwise players will find it difficult to get any actual injury to enemies. This is where Diana pops up! It can use its real-time hacking ability to destroy the enemy armour, allowing Hugh to attack their weak spots. With an arsenal of unique weapons and the evolutions of hacking mechanics, PRAGMATA offers a fascinating combat system that has never been seen in the action adventure title.
  • THE WORLD RUGGED BY AI-Intelligence - The moon research station was taken over by the AI system that tried to recreate the human world using 3D printing material known as Luna filament. Explore twisted interpretations of AI Times Square and lush forests, all within the boundaries of a moon research station, including a unique introduction of where the future using artificial intelligence takes us.
  • Enchanting Characters - PRAGMATA follows the unlikely adventure between man and android - Hugh can sometimes be a little sarcastic but is a kind soul, and Diana is a curious and enigmatic android that is known to throw caution on the wind! Experience how their connection grows during their mission to return to Earth.

Use a node when it changes the outcome of an encounter: a defense reduction that enables a finishing volley, a multi-target effect that controls a packed group, or a redirected missile that removes an immediate threat. Avoid spending the strongest option on an enemy you can safely handle with the Primary Unit and ordinary movement.

Use the Shelter and upgrades to shape your approach

7. Visit the Shelter for recovery and equipment work

The Shelter is the game’s described recovery and preparation point. The hands-on report says it allows healing and lets you spend gathered materials, including Lunafilament, to unlock abilities or enhance weapons and Hacking Nodes. Treat reaching a Shelter as a chance to reset your plan rather than merely a checkpoint.

After a difficult stretch, heal before pushing into the next area and review which upgrades address the problem you actually encountered. If defenses are slowing every fight, a hacking improvement may have more immediate value than a weapon enhancement; if you are surviving hacks but lacking finishing damage, the reverse may be true.

8. Revisit your loadout as progression changes the balance

The hands-on report recommends upgrading and customizing regularly. Capcom also says additional upgrades can make hacking more powerful and efficient, so progression can shift how much work Diana does before Hugh fires. A setup that felt comfortable early on may become inefficient after new abilities or node improvements appear.

Use each upgrade visit to ask three questions: Which enemy takes longest to weaken? Which weapon is running out of ammunition first? Are you using nodes because they solve a problem, or because they are available? Your answers indicate whether to emphasize hacking speed and effect, weapon damage, control tools or defensive options.

There is no source-backed universal best build. Compare choices by ammunition availability, the node effect you need, enemy grouping and whether you prefer to emphasize Diana’s control or Hugh’s direct firepower.

9. Save Critical Down for a confirmed follow-up

The hands-on report says the Critical Down Node can knock down weakened enemies, creating an opportunity for a strong melee follow-up. It is most useful after a target has already been softened enough for the knockdown to matter.

Do not spend it merely to begin damaging a healthy enemy. First create the weakened state, then trigger Critical Down when Hugh can safely reach the target and complete the melee opportunity. A knockdown that leaves you exposed or too far away wastes the node’s defining advantage.

Move through the lunar station with both characters

10. Use Hugh’s thrusters to solve traversal problems

The official PlayStation PRAGMATA page identifies Hugh’s suit thrusters as a movement tool for getting through the facility. When a route appears to require more than ordinary running or jumping, inspect the space for a thruster-assisted path instead of assuming the area is blocked.

Thrusters are part of exploration, not only an escape option during combat. Use them to change your angle, reach another section of the station or create distance before beginning a hack. Movement that puts Hugh in a safer firing position can be as valuable as a direct damage upgrade.

11. Let Diana clear locked routes

Diana can hack the lunar station’s security systems to unlock doors and clear paths. If a corridor ends at a sealed door or an apparently inactive system, look for a hacking interaction before searching for a conventional key.

Route clearing and combat hacking use the same basic partnership: Diana changes the system, and Hugh benefits from the resulting access. Keep this in mind when backtracking through the station, because a previously inaccessible passage may become available after a new ability or system interaction is introduced.

Stay alert when the station seems empty

12. Treat quiet rooms as possible ambush spaces

The official PlayStation description warns that enemy bots can be waiting even when parts of the facility feel deserted. A lack of immediate movement is therefore not confirmation that a room is safe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Enter quiet areas with Hugh’s weapon and Diana’s hacking option ready. Check corners, open approaches and the space beyond a newly cleared route before committing to a long interaction. If a battle starts after a period of silence, fall back on the same loop: identify the threat, hack its weakness or attack, then use the appropriate weapon role.

How to decide between hacking- and shooting-focused approaches

PRAGMATA supports different emphases rather than one prescribed configuration. Use the following decision guide when choosing upgrades, nodes and weapons:

If your situation is… Prioritize… Reason
A single heavily protected enemy Decode followed by Hugh’s most reliable damage option Lowering one defense produces a clear target for concentrated fire.
Several enemies packed together Multi-Hack, then an area-capable or close-range attack when ammunition allows One node effect can prepare multiple targets before Hugh attacks.
Enemies applying constant pressure Tactical Unit for pinning or Defense Unit for drawing attention Control and distraction create time for Diana to work.
A dangerous missile launcher Immediate missile hacking Redirecting the projectile can remove a threat without spending a firearm round.
Low specialist ammunition Primary Unit and conservative node use The report describes other weapons as breaking when their ammunition is exhausted.

Use the table as a set of questions, not a fixed build order. The game’s upgrades and combinations are intended to let your preferred balance evolve as you gather materials and learn enemy patterns.

Release and platform context

PRAGMATA is a single-player science-fiction action-adventure set around a lunar research station. Capcom’s May 7, 2026 announcement reports the game’s launch on April 17, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. That announcement also specifies that the Switch 2 version in Japan and other parts of Asia released on April 24, 2026. An earlier December 12, 2025 announcement had scheduled April 24, but the later Capcom notice supersedes that date for the general launch.
