Preorder availability and release date
Xbox announced on August 26 that the X25 Special Edition would be sold separately and that preorders were open in select markets. The controller’s announced launch date is October 20, 2026, according to Xbox Wire.
The US Microsoft Store listing gives a price of $79.99 and a release date of October 20, 2026, at 4:00 AM. It displayed “Out of stock” when checked October 7; that is a snapshot, not a guarantee of future stock. Xbox says prices and availability may vary by retailer and market, so check locally before placing an order.
The controller’s October 20 release is separate from the anniversary collection’s November 13, 2026 launch date. The preorder announcement treats those as distinct dates.

What makes the X25 design different?
The X25 is an anniversary design inspired by the original Xbox, not a claimed performance upgrade. Its translucent OG Green shell, transparent top and back cases, and see-through battery door echo the 2001 console. Xbox describes the battery door as its first translucent one on a controller. The green Xbox button and original Xbox color cues round out the look.
The ABXY buttons use the original Xbox colors, while the bumpers reference the black and white buttons on the original Duke controller. Microsoft also lists textured triggers and bumpers. These are design details; the published specifications do not establish better gameplay performance than a standard controller. Xbox’s June 7 reveal and product page describe the anniversary styling.

Compatibility and battery life
Microsoft lists compatibility with Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10 and 11, Android, and iOS. The controller connects to Xbox consoles with Xbox Wireless; it uses Bluetooth for wireless connections to Windows PCs, tablets, and supported iOS and Android devices. Mobile and Bluetooth features depend on select devices and software versions, and some functionality may not be supported.
Microsoft advertises up to 40 hours from AA batteries, but says battery life varies significantly with headset use, other accessories, usage, and additional factors. That estimate comes from Microsoft testing standard AA batteries in preproduction units, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed runtime for every setup.
