What kind of game is Predator: Hunting Grounds?
Predator: Hunting Grounds is an online-only asymmetrical multiplayer game: one player controls the Predator while four others form a human Fireteam. Choose the role that sounds fun
- Predator: Play the lone hunter, using the character’s distinctive equipment and abilities.
- Fireteam: Play as part of a four-person human squad, where coordination is central to the premise.
The game’s central draw is the matchup itself. If you want a substantial single-player story or primarily offline play, this is the wrong fit.
What changed on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC?
IllFonic released a ninth-generation update for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its Patch Notes 3.00 describe upgrades to graphics, textures, lighting, ray tracing, visual effects, movement, and physics. The notes also describe cross-platform play across next-generation platforms, plus PS5 DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. These are publisher-described features; the notes do not provide independent performance measurements or a platform-by-platform technical comparison.

The PlayStation Store lists PS4 and PS5 editions separately. IllFonic’s update announcement also identifies the Feral Predator and equipment including the Crossbolt Gun, expandable shield, and Feral Spear. What do the reviews say?
The clearest critic score in the available record is historical, not an assessment of the current build. GameSpot reviewed the PS4 version and scored it 4/10 on May 8, 2020. Its criticism focused on limited variety and shallow gameplay, which it said made the game hard to stick with beyond a handful of rounds. GameSpot lists the original release date as April 24, 2020. The PlayStation Store showed a 4.03/5 average from 3,024 global ratings when accessed on October 8, 2026. The store describes its reviews as coming from verified owners and being moderated. That is a dated storefront player-rating snapshot, not a critic aggregate; its score and rating count may change. PlayStation Store
These ratings answer different questions: GameSpot’s score records one critic’s view of the PS4 release in 2020, while the PlayStation figure summarizes store ratings at a later date. Neither establishes how the game plays today across every platform. No independent review of the current build with a verified publication date is established here.

Can you still find matches?
IllFonic’s official forum index lists a Patch Notes 3.5.1 hotfix dated August 15, 2026, and a Father Predator announcement dated September 24, 2026. Those entries establish dated official patch and content activity, but they do not report player counts, queue times, platform-specific matchmaking health, or how long support will continue. That leaves an important practical uncertainty: the game’s online-only design makes access to other players essential, but the cited sources cannot tell you whether your platform or region currently has fast, reliable matchmaking. Do not treat recent official posts or store-rating counts as proof of a large active population.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the online requirement. The PlayStation Store says online play is required. For PS5 online play, the same listing says PS Plus is required. Check the requirements for your platform and account before purchase. PlayStation Store

- Decide whether the match loop suits you. The launch-era criticism of limited variety is relevant if you are easily bored by repeating online matches. The franchise setting and the Predator-versus-Fireteam roles may matter more to players who enjoy that premise.
- Check local matchmaking expectations. No cited source gives live population or queue data. If reliable, quick matches are a deciding factor, verify recent platform- and region-specific reports before committing.
Verdict
Predator: Hunting Grounds is a conditional recommendation for players who want its asymmetric online hunt and are comfortable with the online requirement. The later-generation update makes the current offering meaningfully different from the PS4 version covered by GameSpot in 2020, but it does not erase that review’s concern about variety or answer whether matches are readily available for you now. Fans of the license and friends able to play together have the clearest reason to try it; players seeking a solo experience or guaranteed matchmaking should look elsewhere.
